Isn’t Iran also an Islamic Republic? They unlike Pakistan just don’t have a conservative culture, they actually have whole load of strict laws that impose extreme censorship yet Iranian films are routinely shortlisted for various European film awards, every now and then their films are featured on Cannes film festival and just recently an Iranian film made it in the Oscar race. Of course Pakistan need no such examples because these are examples of serious, meaningful cinema as TS above me has described.
