Some adoptive mothers will go through medical/hormone therapy to induce lactation. Just because they haven’t given birth to a child, they still want to “bond” with the baby and breastfeeding allows them to do so.

What if you adopt a child over 5? Or no women in your family is lactating? (medical therapy is not available in some places).
I know of two cases where both parents passed away whilst the kids were in teens/ or pre-teen, but definitely not infant stage.
