What’s the trend in terms of jewelry/hair/overall look for these 2 events?
I know that at one point I want to do a gajra type thing with my hair tied to the side. Like this:
I can’t decide if that would look better with my overall get up on the mehndi vs mayoun.
I’m wearing a lacha for the mayoun and want to keep it super light and traditional. I was initially going to do a paranda with it so its super low key but my mom said to rethink that because she thinks it might be too much, bordering paindu
For the mehndi, I want to also keep it traditional (I’m doing the whole she-bang at the wedding in terms of jewelry/makeup) so I had thought I would do the gajra thing with all flower jewelry. I’m wearing a chatta-patthi (or whatever you call it) gharara in yellow/green. Now I’m thinking that I should do this:
with this type of jewelry:
but I don’t know. I’m debating whether that fishtail hairstyle will go well with the mehndi look and maybe I should just do the flower gajra for the bigger event (mehndi).
Also, in pics that I’ve been seeing, it looks like most girls are opting for a legit tikka or mattha patthi…for the mehndi vs no jewelry/only flower jewelry. Is flower jewelry solely for the mayoun now? I remember when my friend got married, her in laws came on stage for the mehndi and put the flower jewelry on her…is that “traditionally” what’s done?
i think mayouns tend to be a totally minimal event, as in no make up simple look, i think the flower jewellery will look nice on the mehndi, it depends some girls have them on both events, maybe do the flower jewels on mayoon and on mend just go for a nice big round teeka with your laacha and a nice fishtail plait, with some gerbera daisies pinned in between
I think that the right hairstyle and jewellery completely depends on how you want to drape your dupatta... does that make sense? so the more cloth you're bringing forward the less hair should be forward around your arms and neck, the more the hair (and hair flowers) should be kept neat or minimal...
Personally I had a braided bun on the mayoun (because ubtan is messy and i didn't want my hair in the way at all) with simple makeup and full on flower jewellery.
Then on the mehendi I had a paranda with flowers braided around it and flower hoop earrings and a crystal jhumar and full arabic eye makeup (because I was going for a different more formal look). But it's totally up to you.
I love the fishtail so I’m thinking of doing that for the mayoun with the lacha. Then for the mehndi do no real jewelry and only do flower earrings, flower braceletes and flower tied around my hair. The tikka is the only thing I’m iffy about. Whether I want one with flowers/a real one/or none at all.
I wanted a ghoongat for the mehndi but the dupatta fabric isn’t sheer enough and I still want my face in pics (vain I know ) so now I’m debating just having it on my head far enough so you can see my face and hair and stuff.
on my mayoon I kept everything simple n only girl's party peela jora floral jewlary ubtan tail n halla gulla. mehndi was bigger affair wth both male n females I wore bit heavy lengha wth kundan jewlary n rest same mehndi rasm n dholki n bhangras by boys
traditionally is the flower jewelry worn on the mayoun? My mom was telling me that tradtiionally you wear it for the mayoun and mehndi is just simple with no jewelry no nothing.

traditionally (at least in urdu speaking families ... not sure about punjabi) ... mayoun happens first .... in the olden days ... t was meant to be a sort of a rest period for the bride during which she is exempted from all housework, puts on a simple yellow jora, stays out the sun ... infact doesnt go out at all.... and kinda just focuses on self pampering/time with friends/family. mayoun used to be as long as a month! (grandmas time) .... my mom was sat mayoun for10 days .... she hated it and instead of being able to relax she cried the whole time ... she tells me :D.
understandable ... it was an arranged marriage and she was going to leave her hometown to be across the country....
anyhow ... traditionally on day 1 of mayoun ... grils/ladies gathered to apply ubtan, oil to hair etc .... its supposed to be a mini party at home with music and a bit of dholki .... not a 50K party with photoshoots :D ........ its literally the bride to be with a plain face getting oil/ubtan rubbed on her legs/face etc... no makeup/jewelry etc....
at the end of mayoun ... comes the mehndi ... a bigger party/dress up/music/clothes/dancing etc... and traditionally the dress code is yellow/green with flower jewelry and application of henna etc...
remember this is what used to happen "traditionally" ....
these days ... there isnt really a defining line tween mayoun/mehndi. the bride to be ends up looking pretty much the same on both days ... give or take a few color changes OR is so overdressed for the mehndi day that it looks like a barat day ....
bottom line ... do what you like. There are no real rules to this.

Yeah I was just curious. i saw my mayoun/mehndi suits! My mayoun one isn't yellow (it's orange/hot pink) but plain and my mehndi suit it yellow/green chattapatti with some kaam. I wanna keep it as traditional as possible so was curious about the flower jewelry and when most brides wear it. lol. The pics I saw make it really confusing becuase everyone seems dressed up for all the days so I can't tell if its the mehndi or mayoun
Did you girls use extensions for the mehndi? I'm seeing that as a trend and now I'm debating. Any idea where to get good ones (that are cheap)? My MUA doesn't have any!
Sally Beauty Supply should have cheap fake hair to use for a braid. $3 a pack. I even saw some at a Dollar store here. Check out this post by Irene Sarah a desi beauty blogger. While her braid was way OTT she did it with cheap fake hair.
I got married 18 months ago, don't know if what I did was fashionable or not but this was it -Mayun :simple lawn jorra, chiffon dupatta, no make up, flower jewellery.
Mehndi: light make up, full flower jewellery, except for a gold teeka and my grandmother's pazaybayn on my feet. My long hair were tied in a braid using a paranda made of motia and tiny roses. Was expensive, but worth it,made me feel like a Disney Princess. I wore a long shirt and churidaar and full ghoongat using a tissue fabric wala ghoongat, it looked divine and ethereal, it gives a barely there feeling plus photos were so beautiful. It's such a sheer fabric, it kind of just hides your imperfections and enhances your look.
thanks, girl! Yeah, cheap Sally’s hair is gonna be the way I go! The salon I’m gtting my hair done from is charging an arm/leg for their hair which I’ll never use again!
