thats how it used to be in the old days... nikah/rukhsati together, and then valima the next day. its nice but maybe people felt there wasn't enough weight given to the actual nikah (the meat and potatoes of the whole day) so they split it into its own function?

^ i think some times ppl jus thave nikkah beforehand for more reasons... like ones in school or living in another country etc.. any reason that htey can't live together permanently yet.. but having the nikkah gives them freedom to meet and stuff, than engagement would. however, having the nikkah just a few days before the shadi just doesnt make much sense

i think in the us at least, a lot of it has to do with the fact that the nikah is seen as a very solemn, religious ceremony, and so people like to keep things simple and conservative...and separate from the reception/rukhsati where there's a lot of music and dancing and things like that...

^ i've heard of some where the nikkah was done right after the mehndi..with the families only. But I guess a separate nikkah is also another excuse to dress up and be a bride.. :D

Yah, I agree. I've seen very thin mattha pattis, and i think that that is one piece of jewelry that looks better bolder.

yea i was gonna say... they dont look like the same person... i know makeup makes a difference, but this much??

pretty jewellery on the wedding day! i love how her matha patti has a design and its not just a straight string with beads hanging from it.
