We had one for my SIL’s wedding.. It happened quite unplanned, nothing big. The family gathered for dholki almost everyday and one day we spotted an expert mehndi-wali at a stall in market and asked her to come over and do our mehndis.. So that’s how it just happened, was a fun activity but I wouldn’t want it to be a must or necessity from the POV of extra burden.
