Mehndi is green and maiyon is yellow. Most of the people have a combined function though and u wear something predominantly yellow with some green in it e.g. in the dupatta. That is tradition anyway. I have even seen a girl wear white on her maiyon with green and hot pink on it. So I guess it's your own choice. Wear what u like, not just cos its in.
If you are not having separate functions no it wont kill the culture. Yellow is worn when you have a combined function. In maiyon you put oil in the brides hair and ubtan and stuff. In mehndi its just mehndi on the hands. Basically just an excuse for an extra day of partying and dancing and dressing up! :)
Saadia, i am not sure wahts in but i have seen dulhans wearing the yellow shalwar kameez or choori daar pijama with some green in it,, as femme mentioned it above. I think green gota kinari also looks nice on yellow jora. I even saw one of my college fellows wear a yellow lehanga on her mehandi but i would personally just go with shalwar kameez or choori daar. Good luck sista :)
I wore a yellow and green churiday, simple but very elegant, the kameez was yellow with green karai on the neck line and the churiday was yellow and green, it was an organza type material..hmm..looked very nice, i didnt wear any makeup so if you want to go for maximum simple effect, dont wear any make up..
hope this helps..
btw i got it made from pakistan..
I wore a yellow garara, the fabric was very simple, dubutta was malmal, garara fabric was some polyester mix but muted.
I had green, light gold and red flowers embroidered on the bottom half (below the knee) portion of the garara....3 bands of ribbon, red, green and a printed black green one at the kneee. plain on the thigh. Shirt was plain but 3 ribbons on the square neck and then the same 3 bands of ribbon were on the edge of my dubutta.
IT looked really great. I was planning on simple silwar kameez but my cousin had this outfit and it looked awesome...
i wore orange at my maiyoon.....
I don't think it's so strict but really a factor of what you want dressy, plain, colors, simple or ban tan...
i had a yellow kattan ki shirt with golden green and yellow ribbon on it.. ofcourse the shirt aslo had bareek green an gold threads.. n i wore it with a churidar silk a pajama which had mutli color (red green gold yellow diagnal stripes on it .. very elegant n trendy if i must say so myself.. an the duppata was orangdi with golden sitare on it..
