prototype, is she in toronto? can you PM me her info please?
also afshi, what was the name of the decorator you used? can u send that to me too please?

Re: MEHNDI DECORATION!! help@!!

also the only thing with bringing stuff from pakistan, in terms of decor, is that you have to pay custom and duties on it- especialy if you're bringing in embroidered table cloths etc. then it also gets heavy and you're over your baggage limit and paying for that.

Re: MEHNDI DECORATION!! help@!!

ichra in lahore, had loads of mendhi decor accessories.... one of the things i think one should get if travelling to pk for an overseas wedding is yellow cloth....and cover this with sofas chairs floors...and the yellow strings in tissue paper come in handy, and also get fairy lights from pk...this is what i got!

Re: MEHNDI DECORATION!! help@!!

in pindi its in moti bazar. u can find all the stuff there. in lahore u can find all these things in anarkali bazar.

do u know the matki....? u can also decorate a small matki with ghongroo and put a dia over it.

Re: MEHNDI DECORATION!! help@!!

what are your colors? where are you located?

how about vertical layers/panels of chiffon? say you use dark red chiffon for some drama, and then you know how you get christmas lights? the little string lights? if you hang a whole row of them, but so they fall vertically, behind the chiffon panels, then it would look really pretty all lit up but softened with the colored chiffon. you can also get strings of clear, sparkly crystals and hang those vertically but in front of the chiffon panels for some more oomph. this would work best, i think, with white or ivory chiffon but if the whole room were done up in shades of red, it would be very pretty.

you can have lots of candles too, but place them in large, tall, circular glass vases- the big ones that sit on the floor and hold the taller pillar candles? those are also safe cos theres less chance of them being knocked over like with little votives. you can arrange a number of them, in varying heights on either side of the stage maybe, or to form your aisle up to the stage. scatter mixed rose petals at their base in reds and pinks and yellows.
i also really like the idea of using a "takht" instead of a swing or a sofa on the stage. those are slightly lower and you can arrange really nice floor cushions all around them so for photo op's it looks more intimate and like a big group of people who actually know/like each other, as opposed to some of the pics where it looks like a bunch of random, disconnected strangers are sitting sort of far apart from each other but on the same stage. there needs to be more closeness in these stage-set wedding and mehendi pics, i think.

Re: MEHNDI DECORATION!! help@!!

I think "ichra" is the place from where every1 gets the thals n diyas. We got it from a shop @ firdous market (i think thats the name but i wl confirm on that) which had some nice stuff plus also since we ran lil late with our stuff and we were amazed to find this shop and the good thing about them is they r open till really late at night. So if you dont like going to crowded places, like ichra, than go to this shop though you might have to comparitively pay lil extra.
