I am stuck with the following....your help would make a lot of difference:)
Does anyone know of some place in Dubai/UAE where mehndi items...(matkis, matkas) are available? Is Pak only where i could get them from? Do Desi Wedding caterers in Dubai have/ can arrange for them?
The other thing is how does one go about having strings of yellow/orange fresh flowers for mehndi decor in Dubai..?
Fingirl there's a shop in Meena Bazar called "partito" that usually has mud/clay thaals etc..but not always! And that's when I make a trip to Pak or get sumone to send me. The fresh flowers, im guess u want the saffron yellow "gainday" ke phool used for mayun/mehndi have to be ordered from Pak as well.

Yeah precisely, "gainday ke phool" is wht i was referring to....Do u know of florists in Dubai who take orders in Dubai and network with those in Pak for such flowers....??
Besides, i was also wondering of wht goes in decorating a typical thaal...and wht happen to be its usual contents?
I have seen ppl use fake yellow flowers (gainday) and make them into lariyan... the older ladies did the prooing....
Fingirl i've done loads with the "thaals" like added diya's and candles, glitter and fresh flowers.. colored sugar-coated almonds..mehndi cones, bangles etc. There's so much you can do..
Sorry don't know of any local florists that could arrange the gainday ke phool for u, but i've seen some of the artificial ones that look equally good.

aishii---do you have pictures of the stuff you got from ichra...like the matkis, thaals, flowers, etc?? my MIL is in lahore and i really want her to get nice mehndi stuff from there.
oh, and "gainday ke phool"...what kind of flowers are those? yellow carnations??
these are from a last minute dholki flower arrangement (literally done in less than a day).
flowers by the bundle at the dollar store, de-stemmed and strung through nylon thread.
several of these were put up, and the end result was really nice.

i dont hv pictures bcos everything is packed in dabbe & put away as we are having work done in my hs (sorry)!
i got the matkis from gujrawala, they are multicoloured with sheesha going all the way round.. i didnt see ne multicoloured ones in lahore but they do have the gold matkis (i dont hv a pic) but im sure iv seen some in a old 'mehndi deco' thread so hva luk...best place to go is ichra, they hv big taals, small bowl thingys for mehndi/phool..they hv artificial flower things for decoration...sorry i cnt b of much help! xx

pakfairy i think iv sed it already but wow!! mashallah ur fotos are amazing!! i love everything..do dua that i luk nice on my wedding day...im not photogenic so im a bit worried!
im so excited...yesterday me and mum spent the day mking cushions for the mehndi hall- our theme is multi bright colours with mirrors, so we bought loads of organza material (fusia pink, purple, red, orange, yellow, green, ferozi etc etc) & made loadss of diff sized cushions! big, small medium, the gol ones and i stuck mirrors on them & alhamdulilah they luk amazing!! its obviously money saving & it was so much fun to do & at the end we get to keep them...

i'm getting marry after 4 months, so now a days i'm seriously thinking abt my wedding prep & mehndi themes etc, i live abroad so cannot arrange as i want to, also haven't got any sis who can help me out, so really need a help from all you guys :D
i saw all the pics of mehndi+wedding decore sended by everyone here, they r all Sooo gorgeous Mashallah.
so plz anyone can help me out abt deciding abt my mehndi theme, since my inlaws will come frm usa & my fiancee's 6 friends are coming too to pk specially for our wedding, so can anyone suggest me something great for a wedding day?
i want to have more like floral & candles & glass & crystal vases decorations, but yet some of typical pakistani things also look great, so i'm really confuse that can i mix & match the western style with the eastern ??? or it will look too bad to mix them up, really confused what to have & wat not to..
like jhulaa, candles, those glass shelves hanging from the roof with candles Gorgeous Pakifairy :d , & mehndi thaals, & diyaas, & water in a big pot with floating candles+flower petals...just love it...
but dont know if the combination of modern things+traditional things will look good or not??
