How do you see centuries old phrase ‘Mehmaan Bhagwaan ka roop hota hai’?
Does inflation affected this tradition in all the cultures or there are people who still follow this tradition religiously?

I love how desi culture (used to ? ) treat guests.
In west,even if younger brother is living with older brother,he have to pay half share for everything, rent,grocery,bills.
In Pakistan one person pay for food education all other bills for his family even if his younger siblings are living with him he will do everything for them.
As for guest, I think now it's only lunch or dinner which is called mahman nawazi,before people used to stay for couple of day wherever they would go.

Mehman nawazi is much more in rural areas as compared to urban, and the poor are more generous than the rich. My wife has been to dera bugti, and she tells me that the people there were very poor but for a guest they'd even sacrifice the last animal they had.

when i was a child my fathers distant cousins used to stay at my home for weeks......
but now everything is different no one stays that long...
I think our lifestyle also changed with time....before people used to chat in real.....:D
now we spend a lot of time in front of tv ....in old days relatives from different cities visiting our homes with new gossips used to be favorite timepass...:D

It is a part of Hindu sacred texts "Atithi devo bhava" which has been translated culturally. Do people still follow this ? Not sure. People have become more selfcentered over time. Every one is usually busy with modern life and would not extend this tradition to visitors who stay long enough to be considered a menace. Having said that there are countless people who are perfectly wonderful to the visitors both known and unknown in their lives.

Exactly. This is may be due to expensive lifestyles we are used to now that we can’t afford guests for longer times. As they say ‘pichhle zamano main ek kamata tha aur poora kunba beth ke khata tha’, but now its not possible.
As far as mehman nawazi is concerned, lunch and dinner are also being replaced by refreshment. It is considered odd, if you visit someone during luch / dinner times uninvited

"Atithi devo bhava" has now converted to '"Atithi tum kab jao ge"

Exactly. Poor people accommodate their guests in better way than rich ones. Recently, I found this irritating habit being developed in so called educated people that they keep on watching TV and attending phone calls in the presence of guests giving impression to the guests that they are not welcomed

gossip was also a mean to be connected with distant relatives. Now people are more concerned about the lives of film stars, etc than their relatives.

My mom says in old times if there was a wedding guest used to come weeks ago and stay but now 
shaadi Hall Mai Ana and wohi se wapas Jana

In old days, there used to be big house with spacious courtyards, etc where not only relatives from other cities could be accommodated, but people used to keep pet animals (chhozay, etc). Now its difficult to accommodate people in small flats. Even otherwise so called privacy rights override everything.

Aadhe pets khaas taur par chooze wagairah to mehman nawazi me hi kharch hojaya karte the....:D
waise main aise hi ek mehman nawaz ke yanha chicken ka lutf le raha tha to unhone bataya ke jo murgha main kha raha hun wo aaj kutte ke muh ka niwala bante bante bach gaya tha.........:D

Now a days people have big house too,but I'm agree with privacy thing,now even a 5 year old have his own bedroom.
Oh and eid,when I was 4/5 years old I remember we and My all other uncles used to gather at barey tayas place, and then all ladies will start making breakfast/lunch together all mard hazrat will go to graveyard after eid namaz, now it's different, we Hardly see our uncles and cousins on eid :(
