Re: Mehfil-e-naaat extravagant "function" and currency note throwing
Personally, I don't like these type of functions. It's just stupidity, paying a Naat Khawan loads of money when there are so many hungry people in Pakistan...
And Naat Khawans are such a clever lot, they act like they are doing a HUGE favor by coming there lol
Re: Mehfil-e-naaat extravagant "function" and currency note throwing
I Value a good Naat or Quwalli but such ostentatios displays are not good for the faith I think.
Like IceSoul says Naatkhwaans of tday have made it a lucrative business just like the poets of pagan pre-Islamic Arabia and the poets of my Pagan ancestors.
A Naat is worthy of praise and a naat khawan should be rewarded, but these days people have took it to far. I used to know a man who sang Quwali's for 70 years or more and who was gifted since childhood... he never took any money if it was thrown at him. If you offered some to him as a gift for his praiseworthy lyrics he would often ask you to give it to the poor or if he took it from you he would leave it at the shrine he visited.
One time he was invited to a Nawabs party on the premise that it was a holy mehfil... when he saw what went on he left promptly and took his team with him... they stayed at a poor fammilies hut instead and passed on the money people gave them to the fammily who lived there.
That man was a hero but I doubt anyone even prays for him these days.
