**Hi guys,
I need simple ideas on how to make trays for the mehendi tray. What do we put in them? Also where exactly can I find those round trays at a cheap rate? Thanks all.**

Re: mehendi thaals
hey im not sure about the USA, but we have like a 99cent/euro store here where they have (honestly) really cure trays and fake flowers in all different colours so its all about getting creative…another idea would be ikea…get a tray/thaal, fake flowers to cover the edges, maybe some beads hanging down? and in each tray you could put a smaller candle holder(s) a small pot for mehndi.
Re: mehendi thaals
If you are in the US - go to a 99 cent sotre or Dollar tree. buy the round silver plates. You can decorate them with flowers (we did that last year) or whatever you like.
This year, i also made some more fancy. take glue gun around the outside brim of plate, then sprinkly with glitter.. :) then you can do the same around base of tea lights/small round plates... add flowers, light, etc.. I'll post some images when on computer that lets me!
Re: mehendi thaals
^ oh my love that idea!
Re: mehendi thaals
I've done a big one with old bangles around a small pot of mehndi which looks really pretty. But yeah, what everyone else has said about going to the dollar/pound shop and getting plates (we got some that we liked but they weren't in gold, so we spray painted them) and just decorating with flowers or peacock feathers and small tea lights
Re: mehendi thaals
For my wedding, we pretty much got everything from the dollar store. They've got big silver or golden trays. Then you decorate them with flowers, or beads....my mom brought this ribbon from Pakistan, we used that on the edges. You can also get pretty ribbons from the dollar store.
Also, we made the main one two-tiered. So for that we bought 2 round trays - one big, and the top one slightly smaller. For pillars to make the top tier stand properly, we used the brown roll from toilet paper rolls and covered them with wrapping paper. Also, we bought a slightly green cone-shaped glass (again dollar store) and put the mehndi in there.
I'll see if I can upload some pics.
Re: mehendi thaals
guys such wonderful and brilliant ideas! I was thinking to bring the thaals from pakistan, but it would be just better if we make it here! Eager to see pics.
Re: mehendi thaals
trays from dollar stores work really well - and sometimes they have some good things.
My cousin even found pink and blue leaf shaped plastic dishes which matched her mehndi colour scheme and just put some tea light candles and flower petals in them.
Re: mehendi thaals
I'm really struggling finding silver and gold plates and thaals in UK that I can decorate (London area). Any suggestions?
There’s loads of shops in Green Street and Ilford! Where have you looked so far?
Re: mehendi thaals
In US, you can find big round trays at any dollar store.

Mad Hatter, I've looked in Southall and Wembly and english shops for silver plates. I haven't noticed shops in Grn st/Ilford that do mendhi stuff. Where on Grn street can I find the thaals, hoping to head there again on Sunday.
Thanks
Re: mehendi thaals
tania....have you checked in Pound shops?

If you want proper thaals, there's a few party shops on Green Street that do them, they're usually the colourful plates with mirrors on them. Otherwise look in those shops that sell 'houseware' type of stuff, they usually do them. Can't think of any names, but there's one of those kinds of shops near the station end where all the shops are.
Sometimes the jewellery/accessory shops have this kinds of stuff, they're worth a look. My sisters and I found some metallic plates in the pound shops, but they can be a bit hit and miss sometimes. There's also a shop on Ilford Lane called Chopras will sell loads of different types of plates, also another shop called 'Party Paradise' in Manor Park, near Green Street (it's on Romford Road) which have a lot of wedding stuff and can be useful, dunno if that's a bit out of the way for you though.
If you really can't find any in Green Street, make sure you ask the people in the shop, even if they don't sell any, they might be able to point some out!
Re: mehendi thaals
Try Ebay. The plates are called 'charger plates'. They usually have loads in the shops at Christmas time, but now you'll probably struggle to find any. But as MH suggested, there should be some in the asian shops. If you can't find any on Green St, try Birmingham - they must have loads of this stuff over there. Also, when I was in Southall a few months ago, they had some nice plates over there too. I can't remember the names of any shops though - sorry.
Hope this has helped somewhat.**
Re: mehendi thaals
Thanks MH/DP, will definitely check out the pound shops and the shops around green st. I went to southhall today and saw some gold thaals there which were selling for £10 each! hopeing to find something cheaper.
