I did not meet waqar personally but a very close indian friend of mine met him in delhi few days ago in a small get-together party. …waqar is apparently coaching some IPL team as well.
what my friend told me:

waqar was extremely humble and a through gentleman. They talked for over 90 minutes and waqar was very balanced throughout the conversation

As pakistani coach, waqar’s no 1 priority will be to somehow improve pakistan’s batting. For that he wants someone to coach pakistani players (even if it is on periodic basis) who have had a rock solid batting technique himself and who can communicate in urdu.
For that Waqar wants Rahul Dravid to coach paki batters. While he was in india, Waqar called Dravid and requested a meeting. Waqar’s caliber helped and dravid immediately agreed to meet. Waqar mentioned that whenever i meet anyone in india or Pakistan, he would like to entertain me in a 5 star hotel or an expensive restaurant but dravid asked waqar to meet in a small coffee shop!
Waqar was on time and so was dravid…Per waqar, dravid’s first reaction was that wikki you need to get back into shape !!! dravid himself was super fit
anyway, dravid was very open to waqar’s idea…but there are obviously complications plus dravid made it clear that he will only work on periodic basis plus he will focus on improving players’ technique and temperament for test cricket and not for T20’s useless cricket.
He told me many other things that waqar talked abut but i thought dravid discussion was interesting…waqar is spot on with his observation plus dravid will be a super player for that purpose…we will see!
