What should be the medium of instructions in our (Pakistani) schools? What would be its impact on schooling? Share your views.

While a foreign language is important to run affairs of a state viz a viz other states;
1) Education in a foreign language makes it a privilege not a right
2) A nation as a whole can only depict slave behavior when ruling oligarchy is trained in a borrowed language.
3) language is not merely means to communicate, it displays culture, way of life, norms and ethics.
4) dependency on a foreign language for the system of education can cost national independence.
5) Dominance of a foreign language translates into the dominance of the culture that it carries.

our medium should be our national language to make comprehension possible. Foreign languages and other skills should be provided with expertise so that our students do not lag behind in other fields. But before all this we need to change our perceptions and perspectives. Its a mindset of the nation that they feel impressed with only whoever can speak English well. Well Im talking about general behaviours. Look at the high class strata, they take it as their status symbol to speak in English. Our models and stars believe they are polished only if they can speak English well. OUR OFFICE LANGUAGE government and private is ENGLISH. So this is all borrowed. I personally believe its superficial. Until we raise our national language to the deserving level, we cannot really get rid of this snobbish behaviours.

it must be English but there must be heavy emphasis on Urdu as a language.

The medium of instruction has to be in English. Pupils in Government run schools are at a disadvantage in life because their English medium going peers are going to excel, while I have seen a lot of trouble in children grasping basic concepts in English coming from Urdu medium schools.
We have to get our ourselves with the "slave" mentality and everything. Speaking and understanding good English IS **an essential skill in the world we live in today. ALL** Professional degrees are taught in the English Language. The MAJORITY of good universities are located in the English-speaking world and their graduates are highly sought after.
Pandering to the ignorant few who claim that learning to speak, write and read good English is reminiscent of a "slave" mentality are deluded. What they are doing is confusing people and standing in the way of the progress of the country.
There are many countries in the world where people learn the English language even when they have never been occupied by the Americans or the British.
Knowing good English is a major advantage in today's world. Plain and simple.
