Mediocrity or Idiocrisy?

It took Shabbir Ahmed 18 hours to fly from Pakistan to South Africa to play in a 20/20 match and break down after bowling 2 overs. Now for a guy who is supposed to be a professional and has not played any form of cricket for last one year, one wud expect some sort of physical fitness, at least just enuff to bowl the full quota of four (4) overs in a 20/20? Sadly, that was not to be.

Why was Shabbira the Jhatka flown especially from Pakistan when he was not even match fit? Was it because he has a flowing beard and someone owes him a favor or two? Or, is it because team management is a bunch of incompetent buffoons? Why was Waqar Yunus advise to not select shabbir ignored? Will the once upon a time under 19 boyzz ever ever get a chance to play?

Shabbir due back home today

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Feb 4: Medium-pacer Shabbir Ahmed, who has been relieved from the Pakistan team due to fitness problems will reach home on Monday.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is likely to announce his replacement on Monday.

It could either be Rao Iftikhar or all-rounder Azhar Mahmood.

However, according to sources Rao Iftikhar is the first priority since he is already one of the World Cup probables while Azhar, despite an excellent good performance for Islamabad enabling them to reach the final of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy, will be given second preference.

Shabbir, who was surprisingly selected for the ODI series against South Africa, despite not having played in any of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy matches for Multan, is reportedly facing groin trouble.

His short-lived stay in South Africa which lasted just seven days, is a clear indication of how unfit players are being sent on important tours.

Earlier, an unfit Shoaib Akhtar was also sent, who could only bowl in one innings of the second Test before suffering a hamstring injury and finally returned home. There are also reports that unfit Umar Gul and Shoaib Malik were picked when the team left for South Africa on Jan 3.

Re: Mediocrity or Idiocrisy?

The amount of time and money they have invested Shabbira could have better used by investing in promising younger players. They could have been sent to for example Australia for proper professional coaching instead they sent this joker and keep on wasting time with him.

Re: Mediocrity or Idiocrisy?

promising youngster? what is that? :konfused:

Re: Mediocrity or Idiocrisy?

Promising youngster those who have the potential or the talent to become good international players.

Re: Mediocrity or Idiocrisy?

Jhatka Shabbir seems to have big pawa somewhere in circles that matter, otherwise a player who has been called three times for illegal bowling action wud have been history by now. One time, two time naheen bhai three times, yet he is in contention to play and every fkng time its the same story, he comes back from Australia, is short of match practise and is immediately recalled for national duty. That is just amazing.

Injured Umer Gul and langra Shoaib Malik had no business to be on this tour or the test match series, yet they were given free passes with no responsibility. I wonder, what wud the other teams be thinking, are these guys just plain stupid or what? They are minus two players in a test series against South Africa. Another Borat moment, only in Kazakhastan, home of Inzimam.

Was this the preparation for WC07? Take a bunch of injured players and make their injuries worse? Disgusting.

Re: Mediocrity or Idiocrisy?

PCB can have this excuse that fate is really working against every decision they are taking recently....and we would say "yeah right!!"

Re: Mediocrity or Idiocrisy?

Thank you for the definition bhai jaan but my question was with sarcasm towards our current tank.

Re: Mediocrity or Idiocrisy?

Famous urdi saying: bundar key haath mein doog daggi....that appplies to pcb team management, a bunch of monkeys, with due apologies to the primate specie......

Re: Mediocrity or Idiocrisy?

what is going wrong with our selection committe. are the youngsters dead in our country. why the hell we are playing old ,half fit dogs in our team and youngsters are no where to be seen. why can someone stop this tablighi jamat and bring back the real athletes in the team who can play the whole match

Re: Mediocrity or Idiocrisy?

Admittedly, I was one of the ones earlier who was quite in favor of having Shabbir in the team, solely on the basis of his past performances and his height factor. But having seen the recent turmoil of events unfolded, it was wrong on all levels to even consider his availability, from the start. It would have been miles better to have someone else in place of him, some new blood, a fresh start in the International circuit, perhaps.

Re: Mediocrity or Idiocrisy?

If doesn't hurt to try... PCB should play Anwar Ali in World Cup. Whats the worst that could happen? The guy can win us few matches.
