is anyone aware whether its possible to do the Medicine degree part time in UK. for example, if someones working or has other commitments and they want to study medicine part time …is that possible?
Re: Medicine degree -Part time
not tht i kno of! theres graduate entry which is an accelerated course...but even then tht takes 4 yrs! if i was u imp....i'd just carry on with pharma.....sachi!...i mean i enjoy it and all.....but its just a bit too taxing on family life etc. and pharmacy is equally as rewarding and respectable....stick with it!
Re: Medicine degree -Part time

Re: Medicine degree -Part time

Re: Medicine degree -Part time
last year i heard that they opened a school in london which does not gives u any holidays and doesnt do non-medical crap like other universities do and they said they will be making doctors in 3 yrs. im not sure if the school did come into being.
Re: Medicine degree -Part time
no such thing. all medical courses are full time.
Re: Medicine degree -Part time
Medicine takes an enormous amount of your time, I cant see anyone offering such a program. The things you have to learn cannot be learned from 6 to 9 or 10PM every night. It's just vast amounts of information.
Medicine should be done by those who have the time to do it. Which is full-time, and that is why its such a sacrifice in a way, to be in the field of medicine.
If you are in pharm, its good to stick with what you are already doing, unless you simply dislike it.
Re: Medicine degree -Part time
Are there any med students from lahore here?
i'm in the UK (a med student) and want to do a few weeks experience in Lahore in a hospital.
where should i go and who should i approach?

nothing is impossible and pharmacy is not so easy aswell...so I know what medicine would involve...cuz i have many friends in the medical field too. I would never compromise my family life for anything....hence medicine is not for me...I love pharmacy:)

I agree Impulse, nothing is impossible. And if you like pharm, thats great. I would stick to what I like doing.
I dont know if medicine compromises family life, it can be like other jobs where you work 9 to 5. As a doc you can be flexible with your hours, unless you are a surgeon or something.
Re: Medicine degree -Part time
Not in the UK. All docs work for the government and the government decides how much work you do.

really i didn't know that , so u mean it's hard to practice medicine in UK ??
and there's no such option to work / practice acc to yr own comfort / choice ??
Re: Medicine degree -Part time
^ r u asking about electives ?? 4 that u need to contact hospital authorities , via phone or email in lahore , search their contact info online ( if available),
send them yr application , there's a particular time frame ( like 2 months in summer may be ) alotted by hospitals every year for candidates who r interested in doing electives .
Re: Medicine degree -Part time
whats an elective?
Re: Medicine degree -Part time
elective is an itegral part of most UK medical degrees . it is usually a 7 week period usually after your 4th year. the student has the freedom to choose what they do and where they do it as long as it is related to medicine. students organise it and pay for it themselves. most goreys go to australia for the sun.
i personally went to an arab country. really wanted to go to imran khans hospital but things just did not work out.
