Medication

What counts as medication for you? Is it things like pain killers (aspirin, paracetamol etc?)? What about multi-vitamins, anti-biotics, herbal supplements, desi totkas? Would you consider a shot medication or not? Insulin? Umm…inhalers, chemotherapy/radiontherapy etc etc.

Basically, what does medication mean to you and what you don’t consider medicine at all.

as rizla put it:

Re: Medication

umm…weird question …why do you ask? Just curious…:konfused:

I consider all of the above things medication…except Isapghol or may be Phakki or minor stuff like that…

Re: Medication

You'd be surprised to learn what people actually consider a dawai and something just to make you feel better. So just curious

Re: Medication

Crisps and uncle Pakistani are dawais

Re: Medication

well…the old folk in my family love the medicines…like extra dosage…take different pills that do the same thing n stuff like that…they do consider them medicines but use is kinda like snacks :nahi:

Re: Medication

I'm having to use anti-histamines so much they're not a medicine for me anymore. I usually need Paracetamol once or twice a month too. Basically anything that I can get over the counter, I think of them as remedies just to get better. Of course its still medication but its the kind I wouldn't go to the doctor for.

Antibiotics like Augmentin I never take them on my own, although my mum does if she's sick..lol. I mean she got them prescribed a couple of times and now it's like she doesn't need to go to the doctor at all.

Re: Medication

LOL you put it in better words than i could have. Lemme copy paste your post in the first post so others can know what I’m talking about :bummer:

But ummm I dunno i find it so iffy getting antibiotics over the counter for everything. sometimes it’s viral ya know, antibiotics isn’t going to solve the problem. and then sometimes the problem could be due to something that augmentin doesn’t fix, and becaus e of this overuse of antibiotics you get drug resistant bacteria and then that starts a whooooooooooole bunch of problems. i guess in that sense augmentin isn’t considered medication. i’m just babbling here

no-mee-ka…ya know you’re not the first one to say that the old people rely on medicine a lot. I mean, hey, it’s there to be used, but to overuse it is like…to them it’s almost necessary. I dun get it =/

Re: Medication

kukri....i have seen both sorts of old people.......those who take medicines a LOT...unnecessarily...
and then there are complete opposites.......they won't take their medicines ...... not even the essential ones....they will skip doses n stuff......although the behaviour is not limited to the old people only...

Re: Medication

I didn’t think antibiotics were avail OTC? :konfused:

Re: Medication

:hehe:… here in Pakistan we get everything OTC … from sleeping pills to antibiotics to steroid…you name it we got it .. :faizy:

Re: Medication

To me:
antibiotics/pain killers/cough syrup/ etc = meds
herbal/vitamins = don't count as meds

shots and inhalers= I'm not sure

Re: Medication

I think any pill/syrup that has a chemical composition and is used to TREAT an ailment is a medicine. So vitamins and supplements are not really medicines to me as they are "preventative" mostly...unlike say D3 or Iron for example which are supplements used to treat conditions.

Desi totkas do have "medicinal" properties but because most come with little or no sideeffects, aren't really medicines, according to me, even though they could successfully treat certain illnesses.
