Medical Insurance and your co-pay

Normally it’s 20 for a physicians, 40 for a specialist.. so on.
What about when you’re admitted in the hospital? Like they have to keep you there for a day or two or more? Are there additional copays for that?

Re: Medical Insurance and your co-pay

Yes, there are. At that point insurance usually pays for 90% of the treatment and you pay the other 10%. If not, then hospitalization is covered 100%, but the doctor's fee has 90%/10% pay rate.

But, if you need a specialist in the middle of the night, and the doctor is not in your network, then get ready to pay 40 - 60% for out of network fees which are not charged at the in network agreed rate.

That depends on what insurance you have.

What hv you got btw?

I'd CIGNA earlier but then they increased by co-pay for the pharmacy. I changed it to AETNA.
Even when I spoke to CIGNA folks, they said they are expensive

It depends on what percentage of in network hospitalization is covered by your insurance. You pay the difference.

Re: Medical Insurance and your co-pay

My insurance pays 100% of hospitalization but there is a $250 copay. You really have to check your plan to find out about your specific coverage.

Re: Medical Insurance and your co-pay

For ER visit we have a co-pay of $75. If admitted to hospital the co-pay is waived.

like everyone said - it depends on what type of insurance you have.

Re: Medical Insurance and your co-pay

So what are some good insurance companies to go wtih?

Re: Medical Insurance and your co-pay

I dont know about Canada, Move to you UK and you will have free NHS! and insurance is still available if you want to go private.

Its really a shame for country like US to have this kind of policy for health.

Re: Medical Insurance and your co-pay

Not for long, if the Democrats have their way :(

Sara - most of the time you don't have a choice... whatever company you are working for, they already pick the one that best suits the "company group".

... unless you want a private insurance - for which you have to pay hefty monthly premiums... then you can choose any you want...

Re: Medical Insurance and your co-pay

Basically, my husband and I had to get our own private ones because once we got married, we were both kicked off our parents’ insurances :hehe: He now has Aetna and I have Blue Anthem. I can no longer be covered under my mom’s :frowning: so while she and the rest of my family get free healthcare through her hospital, she has to pay for me every month :frowning:

I think my co-pay for ER is $100.. but it’s all so new and confusing. God forbid if something happens, I want to be aware of what kind of bills I should be expecting. I’m impatiently counting down the next 6 months so I can get my free health coverage again!

Re: Medical Insurance and your co-pay

Depends on your insurance. Call your insurance and ask them, and read over your policy...which you should have read, honestly, before signing on.

I was in the ER a few days ago, and my copay was 150. I don't think I'll be billed any additional for it. Just the copay.

Re: Medical Insurance and your co-pay

Sara, most big companies offer a choice of different plans and ins companies. The employer pays part and the employee pays the rest of the cost, taken from pre-tax pay. Anyway, the better plans are more expensive and each is different but we have found United Health Care POS to be really great. We can go to any doctor we want, if its a specialist the co-pay is 30 instead of 20 but we are not limited to a certain set of doctors. If this is not of concern then you can go for the less expensive plans. But its a good idea always to check and see what doctors are covered in the plan you choose. When you start having kids and dealing with pregnancy etc then it becomes a much more important decision than it is when you're single or not ready to start a family.

It depends on the insurance and what kind of do you have. Their are two plans HMO and PPO. In every insurance their are different plans. Our family had BCBS and its little bit expensive but since my husband's company offer that insurance so we have to take it.But the good part is it covered lot of docs so we are not worried about out of network docs. Our ER onw time co pay is 100$ and rest is covered.
Pareezay you can always call ur insurance and ask them about insurance policies. And in case if u are in ER always ask them to provide u with in network doc.
