May be you know it already but I was soooo amazed to read the names of so many medical & dental colleges that have emerged in last 10 years in Pakistan. I thinks it is a “good thing” but these institutes should not be opened in residential buildings with poor facilities.
Any how some people are minting money.
Read the names, some are very interesting…
Private colleges facing closure: the Pakistan Medical College, Sargodha;
Swat Medical and Dental College;
Ibne Sena Medical College, Karachi;
Juniper Dental College, Quetta; and
Bhutta Medical College, Faisalabad (already closed).
The colleges whose recognition was deferred till another inspection by a PMDC team are:
Isra Medical College and University, Hyderabad;
Lahore Medical and Dental College; and
Margalla Institute of Health Sciences which consists of the Margalla Medical College for MBBS and the Margalla College of Dentistry for BDS.
The PMDC has given provisional recognition to eight medical and dental colleges. They are:
the Baqai Medical and Dental College, Karachi;
Hamdard College of Medical and Dentistry, Karachi;
Fatima Jinnah Dental College, Karachi;
Gandhara Institute of Medical Sciences, Peshawar,
Kabir Medical College and
Sardar Begum Dental College;
Frontier Medical College, Abbotabad;
Islamic International Medical College, Rawalpindi;
Ziauddin Medical College, Karachi; and
Jinnah Medical and Dental College, Karachi.
Similarly, six other private medical and dental colleges have applied for recognition. They are:
Muhammad Medical College, Mirpurkhas;
Sir Syed College of Medical Sciences for Girls, Karachi;
Independent Medical College, Faisalabad;
Women Medical College, Abbotabad;
Shifa College of Medicine, Islamabad; and
Islamabad Medical and Dental College, Islamabad.
These decisions were taken at a meeting of the executive committee held under the chairmanship of council chief Prof M. Hayat Zafar in Islamabad.
