Media's role in glorifying terrorism

It really pisses me off to see terrorism news headlines with phrases like:

“City X rocked by …”
“City X bombed
“City X terrorized yet again”
“City X blasted

I understand that today’s media channels have a lot of competition and they do what they can to get attention but is there no such thing as social responsibility?

How do you think the terrorists (whoever and wherever they are) feel when they see the news presented like this? They are going to be proud. They are going to feel like they won. They did such an awesome job killing and scaring their enemies. These phrases glorify terrorism indirectly.

Instead of words like rocked, bombed, attacked and blasted.. I want to see more of words like cowards, inhumane and immoral.

Thoughts?

Re: Media's role in glorifying terrorism

leave alone terrorism, when it comes to Indian Media, they even glamorize flood:D nahi bachegi dilli doob jayegi dilli etc before India-pakistan match during the world cup, they only broadcasted about Indo Pak match for four days, I started wondering if pakistanis are coming to play match in mohali or pakistanis are coming to launch another operation grand slam:D

Re: Media's role in glorifying terrorism

Psot 2 does not mak any sense. I get where Sharabee is coming from. An analogy I can draw is - if there is a fire englufing an area, media reports it as "a spectacular fire". Words matter. So while reporting terrorist atack, use of sensational words that may empower terrorists need to be toned down. Cowardly is a good choice though.

Re: Media's role in glorifying terrorism

Cheers southie. Lets not indirectly encourage the coward terrorists by using words that glamorize their violence. Let's save that for Sanjay Dutt.
