They don't even have such laws in america. Where would you get the journalists or the analysts even if you somehow get the money from chaudhries and malik riaz?
US have cross ownership laws in place and I believe those are reviewed every 4 years as mandated by congress.
What about Fox news ? Forget that brian kilmead, papa bill have radio shows, but rupert murdoch also owns ny daily news, daily mirror, wall street journal?
Sure, you might say that they are different divisions but I am pretty sure that geo is separate from jang even if they share resources aka reporters, opinion makers and CEO khalil-ur-rehman.
Those rules are dynamic and regularity authority change (or review) those rules after every 4 years and those rules were pretty strict lets say 20 years ago. Pakistan on the other hand no such monopoly laws
PEMRA is without a chief for how long? How does the joke go - the Sharif family ran out of family members to fill that post! But really, what excuse do they have for not appointing the PEMRA chief? The SC is asking the same question.
Pakistani media in general has touched all the extremes of unprofessionalism. Some of these so called journalist and anchors must have their license revoked! You go on twitters, and the way these journos are passing personal insults and mudslinging, you'd think you are reading tweets of angry party workers, not journalists. I think it's absolutely shameful and puke worthy how these two penny journalists purposely incite passion and anger through their highly personalised trollish tweets and comments during the time emotionally charged up situations. We may very well see slightly swift rate of progress and emergence of accountability if these journalists instead of discussing politicians, discussed issues like education, health, rights, crime, inequalities, unemployment, rape, etc.
Thanks to Nawaz League, media is sickeningly divided and polarized. How dare a PM mumbles a name of a TV channel in the parliament for special recognition? Why? Why all media groups were target attacked during the crackdown except one channel?
I couldn't believe that someone like Moeed Peerzada repeatedly revealed on national TV that Abid Ali Sher (PM's nephew and a 'parliamentarian') threatened to kill him over the phone, yet it didn't raise any alarm bells.
