Re: Media curbs relaxed - some Private TV channels back on air
It is sad, but just heard on GEO, that GEO foreign service is also closing down today (for how long, I do not know). Seems Pakistan government has made DUBAI to stop GEO transmission.
It seems that channel that threatened that they would bring the government down in 3 days, was put down by the government instead of GEO managing to bring down the government.
How can a so called tin pot dictator that has allegedly no power within Pakistan can influence foreign governments. Amazing?
Re: Media curbs relaxed - some Private TV channels back on air
GEO is owned by the Jang Group, and they have enough money. BTW, how do you know 90% of the revenue they generate is from Pakistan? I'm paying $ 14.99 per month, and I don't even watch their news. There are at leas million Pakistanis in the US and Canada and if each family is paying $14.99 per month that lots of money...more money than what they can generate trough advertisement in Pakistan.

Sorry to burst your bubble but according to US and Canadian Census Bureau, around 1/2 million Pakistanis live here and you can divide them into two groups
Pakistanis with GEO
Pakistanis without GEO
With my personal experience, I can say that 2nd groups is much larger than first one on top of that dont forget that GEO has to pay handsome amount to DISH NETWORK ....
Re: Media curbs relaxed - some Private TV channels back on air
Geo already claims it has lost 80 million dollars in revenue, so they are now feeling the pinch quite a bit. No doubt Aaj and Dawn News will be picking up their business now, so Geo will lose it's audience it's appeal before too long. It's a dog eat dog world after all. :)

Disgusting....even the examples you give are gory....why can't you imagine things in more civilised way where free competition and better performance become the merit instead of high handedness of you mad man.....pay respect to Geo, ARY , dawn and every other institution....they are all our national assets....and people have spent their lifetimes nurturing these institutions.....enough of your sick comments.....appreciate people who stand for the right cause....your comments do not feel funny any more>>>>

Well I am glad that Aaj and Dawn News are not following the irresponsible policies of Geo, and have been allowed back on air in Pakistan. By being shut down in the UAE, and hesitant to move their HQ to the US or UK Geo and ARY now know how much unprecedented media freedom there was under Musharraf pre-3rd November. They abused freedoms not even available to them in the west, so now they are unfortunately learning the hard way.
At least Aaj and Dawn News are wanting to be constructive and part of the solution rather than aggravate the problem and animosity, like Geo and ARY.
Re: Media curbs relaxed - some Private TV channels back on air
but i still miss AAJ's talk shows like Bolta Pakistan and Live with Talat. :(
oh and btw...GEO and ARY might just be back on, UAE is in talks with them to possibly let them resume airing, this was announced earlier yesterday (Saturday).

Journalism is reporting the facts, in a sensitive and responsible way.
In Pakistan facts are only reported on PTV, and all other channels of course are biased and anti Mushrraf. BTW, Mushrraf tv, oops I mean PTV does it presents oppositions pov? I mean its paid for by tx payers, and not by Mushrraf.
