A classmate trained to become an ophthalmologist. He was not very good to become a posterior chamber or retinal surgeon so super-soeciaized into cataract and laser eye surgery. Now he flies between the UK, Dubai and South Africa every year and only performs cataract and vision correction procedures, and he only works three months a year, which is enough for him to buy and maintain houses in three different countries.

Okay but that’s a rare case. You would need years of residency getting low pay to obtain that level of expertise. Also, it’s tough to get into residencies for high paying specialties. Most med students go into family med, psychiatry…
