Measurments

Kay, my Mom just emailed me asking me for my measurements to get my dress made for my bros wedding. She obviously does not have any old clothes of mine but I guess I’ll have to do the measurement myself. The darzi in Pak is going on vacay near my bros wedding time so I have to get this done now and shes the only darzi my Mom trusts. I have a measuring tape but need expert advice on what and how to measure. There are no nearby darzis to help me with this so if I could get help, any steps or a chart on how to do it I would love it. Thankyou!!!

Re: Measurments

If you will be getting straight trousers or fitted trousers or churidars, measure around your thighs knees and calves
across the shoulders
arm hole (like from ur shoulder to your armpit)
arm measurement

Re: Measurments

Thanks Sara jaan! Youre a lovely help but can you be more specific. See, I am a western girl and have relied on my Mom all my life for these things but now that I live away from her am lost. I would call my mom now but I think I have thangged her much by calling her for every little thing..hehe..Okay, so I love your help and all but can you pretty please be more specific as in measure with a tape measure over or under bust or both and how etc? I am more of a visual learner so thats why just reading this stuff is not gonna help me much. Thanks!

Re: Measurments

Take body measurements wearing a vest top or something. The tape should be taught but it shouldn't be tight. You will probably need someone else to help you out.
**
Shoulders:** (wear something where the shoulder seams are in the right place and measure across, the back from one to the other)
Bust: (circumference of the largest part of chest wearing a proper fitting bra)
Waist: (circumference of smallest part of abdomen)
Small Hips: (circumference - usually between waist and largest part of hips)
Hips: (circumference at widest part of hips, usually around the thighs and bottom)
Chest Point: (from the shoulder to where you measured the bust)
Waist Point: (from the shoulder to where you measured the waist)
**
Depth of Neckline at front: (shoulder to mid point)**
Depth of Neckline at Back:
Width of Neckline:
Neck Circumference: (for band necks)

Armpit: (circumference of armpit, raise and bend the arm a little and measure all the way around)
Upper Arm Circumference/Bicep:
*Sleeve Length: *(the exact length you want your sleeves to be from the shoulder)

*Length to knee: *(from shoulder, is helpful so your mum can decide how many inches above/below the knee the top should be)
*Kameez Length: *(for the kameez in question if you have a specific length)

*Shalwar Length : *(from waist to hem)

Trouser Length:
Inside Leg Length:
Thigh Circumference: (single thigh at the largest part)

Re: Measurments

I think it would be best if you find a shirt that you like the fitting of and take measurements from that. You might have to try on a few outfits to find your best fit.

Also make sure to let your mom know that these ae your shirt measurements and you want the end product according to them.

Re: Measurments

I never like taking measurements from a shirt as they rarely come out right. Some fabrics are stretchier than others so it's always risky. Not only that but if for example, you have darts in the back or front for fitting, you won't be able to take an accurate measurement from a kameez; let's say the back has darts and the front doesn't, the front will actually be a bit bigger than the back but your tape won't measure this if you measure from side seam to side seam.

Re: Measurments

I had to go through the same process a few days ago but thankfully I didn't have to send the measurements as my tailor was willing to provide them to my friend.

Re: Measurments

if you have a plain outfit with a perfect fit, you could always mail it to her, if you don't want to take measurements

  6. Cross Shoulders:
Measure from back from one point of the shoulder to other shoulder point horizontally.

  7. Arm Hole:
Lift the Arm lightly and bend the elbow and measure around the arm hole loosely.

  8. Around Thigh:
Take thigh circumference round the widest part of the leg. High up on the leg, just below the crotch.
