hmmm they should have immunized the baby with MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine. In most children rest and simple measures to reduce the fever help. Usually symptoms disappear in 7 days but check with the doctor if any antibiotic needs to be pescribed.
oh yes its contagious but mainly affects unimmunized children b/w 1 - 5 years of age.
What is measles?
Measles is a highly contagious viral infection. It is also called rubeola or red measles.
What causes measles?
Measles is caused by a paramyxovirus. This group of viruses generally cause respiratory infections.
Measles is transmitted when an infected person coughs or sneezes. The virus is most often spread when people first become ill—before they know they have the disease. A person is contagious from 5 days before the rash breaks out to 4 days after the rash disappears.
Symptoms
Measles causes severe coldlike symptoms, high fever, and a distinct red rash. Adults with the disease usually have more severe symptoms than children.
How is measles diagnosed?
Most often, measles is diagnosed by a history of exposure to someone with the disease and the presence of symptoms, especially the characteristic rash.
Treatment
In cases without complications, measles is treated with bed rest and care at home. Home treatment includes medications that relieve pain and decrease fever, such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (Advil, Motrin, naproxen) and acetaminophen (Tylenol, paracetamol). Do not give aspirin to anyone under the age of 20 because of its link to Reye's syndrome.
Antibiotics are not given for measles. However, complications from the illness, such as bacterial infections of the lungs (pneumonia) or ear infection (otitis media), may need antibiotic treatment.
Measles can cause a decrease in vitamin A, which can lead to xerophthalmia and blindness. Vitamin A deficiency increases the risk of death from measles complications, especially in children younger than 2 years of age.3 Vitamin A supplements are recommended for:
i) Children ages 6 months to 2 years who are hospitalized because of measles or complications from measles.
ii) Children with measles who have impaired immune systems or vitamin A deficiency.
iii) All children diagnosed with measles in communities where vitamin A deficiency is a recognized problem, especially in developing countries or in remote regions.
Prevention
The measles vaccine is effective in preventing the disease. It is usually given in combination with the mumps and rubella (German measles) vaccines (MMR). Thanks to widespread vaccination efforts, the disease is extremely rare in the United States, although it could quickly return if people decide against vaccination. Recent studies have found that the risk of a reaction to the vaccine for children who are allergic to eggs is extremely low. For more information, see the topic Immunizations. If you were born after 1955, check your immunity status before you travel to countries where measles is still common.
Available research indicates that if given to people who are susceptible within 72 hours of measles exposure, the measles vaccine will probably provide some protection against the disease.4
Another preventive option for a person exposed to the measles virus is immune globulin (IG). An immune globulin injection can prevent or shorten the measles illness. Babies younger than 1 year old, pregnant women, and people with impaired immune systems may need to get immune globulin if exposed to measles. Talk to your health professional if you or your child has been exposed to this illness.

thanks guys :)
-take 7 days to go away after the appearence of the rash.
-no meds are good enough for them.
-the person has a dioherra as well (how do u spell it ? )
-not neccessarily everyone around the patient catches it, i think this has to do with avoiding of sneezing/coughing when ppl are around.
-and umm the patient might think he wil die soon..but only 3 in thousand are that unfortunate. others just get cured themselves.
one precaution :: do not eat stuff which has cold taseeer.
