Meanings of the names of the Prophets

In the above verse the name of the Prophet Muhammad and his status
are revealed.
The revered name of the Prophet in itself contends great merits to
the extent that the name of no other Prophet manifests.
For example, the word ADAM means wheatish – he is called Abdul Bashar
as it reflects his complexion.
The word NOOH (Noah) means `rest’, as his father intended him to be
in rest.
The word ISHAQUE (Isaac) means `one who laughs’, ever smiling.
The word YAQUEB (Jacob) means `one that follows’ or one who comes
afterwards. He was twin borne and younger to Jesus.
The word MUSA (Moses) means `lifted from the water’ as when the box
containing Musa was lifted from the river the boy was named Musa.
The word YAHYA (John) means `aged one’ which reflects the high wisher
parents for their children.
The word ISA (Jesus) means `rosy’. He was named thus due to his rosy
coloured face.
As is shown, all the above names signify the Prophets appearance only
and not the merits of their Prophethood. But the very name Muhammad
is quite distinguished in as much as it does not reflect the
appearance of his physical nature, rather it reflects his status.
Both the words Muhammad' and Ahmad’ are from `Hamd’ which mean, the
praise, the praised, the praising.
Muhammad is made from the word `hammuda’- it is an indication to his
high status.
His nation (ummat) is called hammadoon'. There is a slight distinction in the meanings of the two words Muhammad’ and Ahmad’. Muhammad means the person who is praised most by all the universe' and Ahmad means one who praises
Allah’.
As such it is this unique feature of the Prophet Muhammad which
distinguishes him from the rest of his predecessors of the order of
Prophethood and Apostleship.
