Meaning of the name Anya?

Re: Meaning of the name Anya?

I agree my friends in the UK pronounce it differently than in the US. I’ve found that with Tanya and Tara as well. I’m sure there are plenty of names like that.

This is why I say that one should be wary if they find that a name has multiple meanings and all those multiple meanings have nothing in common with each other. For instance, if the meaning for Farzana is listed as wise and also beautiful, they have nothing in common. I see people who immediately believe what they read. For instance, several years back the name Eshal was trending and was said to mean flower in jannat. It may very well mean that, but how do we know for sure? There’s this one very extensive website for Muslim baby names that needs to be approached with caution as it has some strange inconsistencies.

Re: Meaning of the name Anya?

yeh but a lot of that has to do with people spreading incorrect information or not looking into things properly. Like I had a friend who told me that Sophia was an arabic name that meant pure. I had to argue it with her for hours because I knew it wasn’t an arabic word. If you just look it up on google then it does show up that way. But if you have an understanding of arabic then there is no such word as sophia, there is a saffiya which as an arabic word. Sophia is a greek name. So you find a lot of people don’t really do enough research into names and their proper origins. Also pronunciation/different languages can affect your interpretation of names too. In urdu a lot of arabic names are pronounced incorrectly and then they almost become different names so that its hard to trace them back.

The name Seher always gave my urdu teacher heart palpitations. She legit couldn’t understand why anyone would name their kids magic.
