OK folks its time for introduction, for those who don’t know what McLaren is…
McLaren F1
Introduced in 1993, McLaren F1 is, by far, the world’s most expensive supercar and the fastest one as well.
Designed as a Formula 1 for 2 (or even 3) McLaren F1 feautures a 6.0lt. BMW engine that can reach 60mph (97km/h) in 3.1 seconds. The car incorporates many world firsts for a road car: a fully carbon fibre monocoque structure, fully active fan-assisted ground effect aerodynamics, a central driving position with two offset rear passenger seats.
You’ve heard it before, you’ll hear it again: The McLaren F1 is one of the fastest, most powerfull & most expesive road car ever. The F1 was developed by McLaren cars LTD, a subsidiary of one of the worlds leading Formula One Teams. Much of the teams experience in F1 racing shined through with the McLaren F1. Emphasis on the design was to get the highest power to weight ratio possible in a comfortable, road worthy machine. Lightweight F1 composites and metals are used throughout the car. Every detail, such as weight and response of the Kenwood stereo components were given close attention.
Radical Design Featues included:
Central Driving Position
‘Ground-Plane Shear’ suspension geometry
Intelligent Brake Cooling
Fan assisted ground-effect aerodynamics
McLaren wanted to create a car with more downforce than the standard F1 with less drag than the LM version offereed. The result? This F1 GT with radical new body aerodynamics
The GT version featured 17inch wheels with central locking retainer pins
All in all the McLaren F1 was a roadcar. Amenities included air conditioning, custom made lightweight kenwood stereo with 6-disc changer, amplifiers and woofers, hand made luggage made in soft leather, power windows, reading lights & remote central locking.
The car’s production has now stopped, after only some more than 100 F1s were built. So you have to try the used car market in order to get your hands on the world’s fastest car…
The McLaren F1 LM serves as the ultimate derivative of the ultimate road going supercar. The LM version of the F1 is basically a modified McLaren F1 GTR for road going use. Major differences from the standard F1:
The F1 LM features the 1995 GTR engine without air restrictors.
18 inch magnesium wheels
76kgs lighter than the standard F1.
Upgraded aerodynamics & gearbox
As a tribute to Bruce McLaren, all 5 LM’s were painted Papaya Orange, the same color used on his Formula One & Can Am racecars.
The F1 Lm broke the 0-100-0 mph time, with a run off 11.5 seconds streching 828 feet.
