McGrath bowls 300,000 dollar delivery saver for ECB

Glenn McGrath bowled one of the most valuable deliveries in cricket history on Sunday when he sent down a 200,000 pounds ($289,300) final ball at the close of the fourth day of the fourth Ashes test.

The Australian paceman’s delivery, to England opener Michael Atherton, meant that exactly 25 overs had been bowled in the day. The umpires consulted moments later and called off the day for bad light.

If less than 25 overs had been bowled at Headingley, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) would have been forced to refund half the value of all tickets.

An ECB spokesman estimated that such a refund would have cost 200,000 pounds.
