I need advice. Anyone here educated in Paki but came to the US? How did you get your degrees evaluated here. I know of WES, but that is college specific as far as we found out. Also what types of opportunities have you taken here in the states?
My hubby completed his MBA-ITM in Islamabad and is now looking to get credits evaluated and finish any courses here to get MBA standard here. Any advice from anyone who has been thru this process??
My cousins did their MBA fom IBA and had to take more classes here to get a local MBA from a mid tier university. I believe it was considered equal to a local bachelors degree.
what i know is that MBA degrees from either IBA institute, or LUMS r considered equivalent to MBA degree in U.S or elsewhere , only their graduates get reputable jobs here easily .
^ not everywhere though hsap... like Fraudia said, even in Canada, I know that an MBA from Pakistan is considered equivalent to an undergraduate honors degree. This is because an MBA in Pakistan constitutes 16 years of formal education (2 years bachelors and 2 years MBA after grade 12), whereas in North America, it takes 16 years just to complete an undergraduate degree (grade 12 plus 4 years for an undergrad honors degree).
excuase me ....................... that curriculum ( 2 years in whatever bachelors program ) has been obsoleted long time back in pakistan, now undergrads have to complete whole 4 years of academics in order to get a bachelors degree , no matter what their doing , BSc, BBA ,(i think BA too,) honors etc than again they study for another 2 years to get a masters degree , most of my relatives/ friends r studying at highly reputable institutions ( IBA , LUMS , KU etc)there and they've studied for 4 whole years for their bachelors degrees............
^ yes... in that case its a different story - as long as the number of education years add up, it should be fine... it is usually the very first thing that universities look at. I know that if you've been to engineering school in Pakistan, then you can get into a Masters program directly or with a prelim. probation year.
He got his degree from International Islamic Uni in Islamabad, but he also did 4 years undergrad, and has more than 124 undergraduate credits. Then he went on to the his MBA...but some evalation places I heard might still consider him Bachelor level here....just trying to figure out best way to be evaluated so he gets credit as close to an MBA as possible here
in US you may also have to pass the AACSB hurdle. There are only a limited number of classes that can be transferred anyways. accredited university or not.
yeah mba from pakistan usually counts as 4 years of study after high school in the u.s, and its considered equivalent to a bachelors degree because in Pakistan you can start m.b.a after completing a 2 year bachelors' degree. Moreover,if MBA is from some lousy university they will probably not even consider it as a 4 year degree, there are a lot of stupid universities out here offering mba's to people for just paying up the tuition fees.
Yes he completed his MBA-ITM from International Islamic Uni in Islamabad. He did his BSc from Faisalabad Agricultural University, I thinkt hey call it Zari...
but both are supposed to be equivalent to degress here, but just trying to figure out best way for evaluation so he can take credits here to have MBA standing here.
I'm not an expert but my understand is, (from reading and talking to ppl) that to have a decent MBA it has to be accredited from AMBA and/or another american institut, I think its AACSB that Fraudz mentioned. (I'll have to look up for it)
If the one from IIUI that hes done is accredited from these instituts then it should not be a problem for him to get it evaluated.
Just to give u an example my husband has done B.A. and LLB Honours from IIUI, it took 6 years after Intermediate (FSc) to complete.
So he applied to the University of Vienna to get it evaluated and well to get it fully regonized he has to do 2 exams and then he is granted a master (Magister) from Austria.
I think you need to contact the universities to get fully information of what he has to do next.
