Re: Mazhar Kaleem- The prolific writer
well i do believe that Safi was a great writer, no question about it and i believe that if at all somebody had to write on his characters he should have at least formally requested him which i am sure no one did
on the other hand Mazhar Kaleem has done a great service to the Imran Series, his novels are definitely not in Safi's style (why is this not appreciated that he did not copy Safi's style). He is the one who has introduced Safi to may of the current young generation, otherwise People would have forgotten who is Imran.
About violence, he writes all kinds of topics and that is his characteristic, he does not worry about experimentation. He wrote on economical crimes (Kaghazee Qiyamat), Mystical crimes (Misaale Dunya), against women trafficking (lady killers) and so on. The canvas of Mazhar Kaleem is so vast that no single author in Urdu Detective stories genre can reach him. Have you read Zinda Sayee (living shadows). The novel dates back to early seventies in which Holographs are used in crimes. How many people had heard about holographs in those days. Though his science may be far fetched but at least it triggers you to see for yourself and that is what mattered.
Also yes Safi knew that copycats will be filtered out and his work will look even more good once compared with substandard work and that is why no one had been able to consistently write Imran series save Safi & Kaleem. Quality speaks for itself. If you are writing trash why people would keep on buying & reading your stuff for 40 years.
Any way the debate had started turning nasty and i think we should terminate it. However Luxury item i appreciate the change in your tone. Perhaps that was not a very better choice of words on any blog which you used first time .
