It is now a fashion to talk about Ibn-e-safi as the only great detective stories writer in subcontinent, whereas names like Mazhar Kaleem who have successfully written more novels than any other writer in subcontinent are refuted as copycats. While he is the one who has kept the name of Ali Imran alive
Re: Mazhar Kaleem- The prolific writer
Mazhar Kaleem is trash. His books are trash. He nearly ruined 'Ali Imran'. His violence laden, mindless pulps are worth wiping ass with!
Mazhar Kaleem is a used toilet paper.
Re: Mazhar Kaleem- The prolific writer
questions
did mazhar kaleem get permission before he started using characters built by someone else
and no mazhar kaleem is not as good as ibn e safi, quantity does not mean quality, otherwise ishtiaq ahmed would be considered better than ibn e safi.
comparing ibn e asfis imran series to mazhar kaleems iran series is liek comparing james bond w/ connery to XXX w/ ice cube
Re: Mazhar Kaleem- The prolific writer
Nothing compares to the quality of Imran series written by Ibn-e-safi....he was a legend
Re: Mazhar Kaleem- The prolific writer
How many novels of mazhar kaleem have you read before passing this verdict, i assume that you are victim of the notion that there is no one after safi.
Regarding permission from safi i donot know but i read that he said that i have not complained against people who have written on my characters, however i have complained against people who have published my novels in their names. That means there was tacit approval from safi's side to write on his character. He was wise enough to know that the more the merrier. The more Imran will be known the more safi will be known as his founder.

Mazhar Kaleem is a used toilet paper.
excellent choice of language showing your brought up very clearly
Re: Mazhar Kaleem- The prolific writer
enough to cringe at his name and books. I know you are a Mazhar Kaleem fan ... but his mindless & violent stories are nothing compared to thoughtful, nuanced and EXTREMELY clever stories of the true genius Mr. Safi.

I am happy to see that you agree with the notion that others' -- those who plagarized Safi's characters -- writing is indeed inferior to Safi's. :D

Safi sahib was a shareef aadmi who lived in the days where copyrights violations were not prosecuted (they still aren't in Pakistan). In times of virtually no IP, that man had no choice but to go along with the times and theft of his ideas.
Re: Mazhar Kaleem- The prolific writer
well i do believe that Safi was a great writer, no question about it and i believe that if at all somebody had to write on his characters he should have at least formally requested him which i am sure no one did
on the other hand Mazhar Kaleem has done a great service to the Imran Series, his novels are definitely not in Safi's style (why is this not appreciated that he did not copy Safi's style). He is the one who has introduced Safi to may of the current young generation, otherwise People would have forgotten who is Imran.
About violence, he writes all kinds of topics and that is his characteristic, he does not worry about experimentation. He wrote on economical crimes (Kaghazee Qiyamat), Mystical crimes (Misaale Dunya), against women trafficking (lady killers) and so on. The canvas of Mazhar Kaleem is so vast that no single author in Urdu Detective stories genre can reach him. Have you read Zinda Sayee (living shadows). The novel dates back to early seventies in which Holographs are used in crimes. How many people had heard about holographs in those days. Though his science may be far fetched but at least it triggers you to see for yourself and that is what mattered.
Also yes Safi knew that copycats will be filtered out and his work will look even more good once compared with substandard work and that is why no one had been able to consistently write Imran series save Safi & Kaleem. Quality speaks for itself. If you are writing trash why people would keep on buying & reading your stuff for 40 years.
Any way the debate had started turning nasty and i think we should terminate it. However Luxury item i appreciate the change in your tone. Perhaps that was not a very better choice of words on any blog which you used first time .
Re: Mazhar Kaleem- The prolific writer
LI, I’m sure your vocabulary is vast enough to have said the above in more acceptable wording. Consider this a polite request not to use such language here :–)
Re: Mazhar Kaleem- The prolific writer
okay mazhar kaleem is the best of all copy cats that I have read, but he is definitely not at the same level or even close to safi, period.
as far as your question about quality and wy ppl would keep buyng your stuff for 40 years. ishtiaq ahmed sold a bunch of junk for decades too didn't he? just because something is popular does not mean its good. with limited other options in current urdu writings, thats what ppl read.
lastly, ppl would not have forgotten imran series and ibn e safi. classics are there to stay.
Re: Mazhar Kaleem- The prolific writer
chaloo
something better than nothing
still that is not a complete logic, If there is shortage of good flour in market, you will eat once a day but will never substitute it with rotten one. still i never meant to prove or disprove anything. my point in opening the thread was just to convey a point which i felt that Mazhar Kaleem is not given the credit which is due to him and i have conveyed the point. I think we can close the discussion hereon. Thanks Gentlemen for your precious comments
Re: Mazhar Kaleem- The prolific writer
yeah but the question os not between good food and rotten food, ut between gourmet cuisine and some anari making it with a packet of shan masala. its edible especially if there is nothing else around ![]()
Re: Mazhar Kaleem- The prolific writer
How do you rate Tariq Ismail Sagar
Isn't he an excellent writer of the same genre

Sometimes I feel lazy and get to the point without flowery prose.

Nah. If you feel you have something worthwhile to say, then say it and stand your ground. Don't be discouraged by my (occasional and very rare) potty mouth. :D
Re: Mazhar Kaleem- The prolific writer
I stopped reading Imran series after my 18th birthday, initially it was Mazhar Kaleem, when i was in 8th and 9th grade, then i read Ibn Safi and it was great read, i cud no longer read Mazhar Kaleem and i read all novels of Ibn Safi twice, yes twice.
However, i think by now Mazhar kaleem might have changed a become a better writer but i dunno, i can only comment on what i read. And what i read was more like science fiction cartoons. I mean, like there was a novel "super agent safdar" in which safdar is buried in tons of sand and he just comes out of it by moving himslef like a reptile. And then all these agents jump from thousands of feet from planes without a parachute and as they land on the ground they do some rolling on ground and are just fine.
Moreover, i think the Freedi series of Ibn Safi was better than his Imran series.

Re: Mazhar Kaleem- The prolific writer
Well off course i am not here to convince people so that i stand my ground, we can die debating on the pros and cons.
I was trying to actually write Wikipedia article on Mazhar Kaleem and trying to find information i saw how little he is discussed and given credit for writing generally good quality stuff (off course exceptions are there, but they vary from person to person). Has any one read Naqabil-Taskhir Mujrim in which Imarn goes against Israel for Palestininans & karwan-e-Daihshat where he goes against Kafristaan (India). They were very good novels. I do not like this science fiction stuff either but every one has pros and cons. If one wants a detective novel on a realistic canvas than believe you me there is no one better than Tariq Ismail Sagar in urdu detective fiction genre. No one at all.
Re: Mazhar Kaleem- The prolific writer
coincidentally, I then feel very active and issue warnings :–)
