Mayon Etiquette

When the brides family goes to the Mayon of the groom, are they supposed to take something?

I have no idea about this…please help!

Re: Mayon Etiquette

no ideas? should they take mitahi? or ubtan and mithai? or some sort of gift? anything?

Re: Mayon Etiquette

We still decorate the menhnd and bring flowers, haars, and baskets fruit/mithai. This is also when you can bring gifts for the groom (and his family).

Re: Mayon Etiquette

^really that's what a mehndi is.

Re: Mayon Etiquette

I have never heard of a mayoun for a groom…!
:hmmm:

Re: Mayon Etiquette

I have heard meethai, maybe a phoolon wala har and i guess that is pretty much it.

Re: Mayon Etiquette

For mayun, I would say mithai ki trays and fruit baskets nicely decorated. You can also take phoolon ke haar (for my sister and BIL, we did haars on the mayun - yellow and white).

Re: Mayon Etiquette

Do the guy's side provide the ubtan? Do boys even do that rasm??

Re: Mayon Etiquette

In our family and our community Both sides host Mayoun... as far as what each side takes depends per family preferences more than anything.
Typically just fruit/flowers/phoolon ke har - if that even... the clothing/gifts/mehndi/sweets -- mostly done on mehndi night- as said above.

The Mayoun, more or less, ends up becoming another celebratory event with everyone singing and dancing as it is... at times get carried away with the Ubtan fights... not as much lately though.. Since folks started dressing up more...

The Ubtan Rasam in general for guys definitely as well... I've always seen it held for guys and girls... Though nobody actually brings the Ubtan, how the mehndi is brought so to speak.

Re: Mayon Etiquette

yah, I have seen a few mayouns for guys, and my fiance is having a mayoun a week before mine, but obviously Im not going, but my family is.

So I think most people agree on the mitahi, fruit basket, and a phoolon ke haar.

thanks for all the suggestions!!
