Mayo substitute

These days i am monitoring my mom’s diet and calorie intake due to few health issues…and i want to eliminate mayo from the ingredients list. I need an ingredient or paste that i can use to make sandwich paste or salads that is healthy and doesn’t have many calories. What can i use or do? Any ideas?

Why get rid of mayo all together? Try Hellmann’s Fat Free mayonaise and I also like Miracle Whip with 50% less fat and calories. Tight stuff! :k:

Samael,

thanks for your suggestion. We have tried fat free and low fat/low cal mayo...being low fat doesn't solve the problem..when one thing is low other is higher..low fat can have high sodium or many other things.

I see. My mother has high blood pressure and the doctor approved of it. She did have to cut off any kind of soda intake by half. Which isn’t a bad trade off.

It’s going to be hard for you guys to find something similar tasting to Mayo but there’s always something somehwere. Goodluck. :k:

You could try making Tofu Mayonnaise, but it does take a bit of getting used to.....you might be better off just eliminating mayo from your mothers diet altogether and using other ingredients to flavour food to stop the cravings for it.

Blend a packet of tofu, the juice of one lemon, tablespoon of mustard and black pepper in a food processor untill smooth. Slowly drizzle in (with the processor still running) around a cup or so of sunflower oil and/or olive oil. You can store it in the fridge for up to three days.

I have also seen SOY based Mayo at the organic stores. Try there.

Thanks Shahreen and Diva..i’ll look up that option :flower2:
