Has anyone started reading it? I have reserved mine at the library. The whole city had only one copy at the lib. I hope it comes in time.

I began reading it over the weekend. I quite like it so far. It presents a picture of contemporary Turkey, which, from what I've heard from a couple of Turkish acquaintances, is quite accurate and explores various facets of Turkish society rather than focusing on one section of society. The plot examines the strong social divide which exists between life in the city and village, between the educated and uneducated, and between rich and poor. It's interesting so far. Another thing which I liked about Livaneli's writing style is that he describes life in the rural villages of Turkey without being condescending or preachy.
