if they knew who was behind it … why delayed taking up any action for 3 yrs?
khair, i can only pray the real culprits are brought to justice, but sadly, im not too hopeful!

**KARACHI: ******The Sindh High Court has put former president Pervez Musharraf, MQM head Altaf Hussain and former Sindh home minister Waseem Akhtar on notice in the May 12, 2007, Karachi violence case.
**
**The court heard an application from Syed Iqbal Kazmi, a representative of the Human Rights Commission of South Asia, seeking restoration of petitions regarding ‘May 12’ against the individuals.
**
The hearing was scheduled for an indefinite date, with orders for the court to hear the case when its turn comes.
On May 12, 2007, 48 people were killed and several vehicles burnt on one of the bloodiest days in Karachi’s history. The then deposed Chief Justice (CJ) of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was scheduled to address a rally in Karachi, organised by the PPP, JI and ANP. The MQM, who at the time backed Musharraf, organised a counter-rally, leading eventually to violent clashes between the two sides.
A recent revelation from WikiLeaks has done nothing to dispel suspicions of Musharraf’s involvement in the May 12 violence.** The secret cable told of a conversation between Farooq Sattar, parliamentary leader of the MQM, and Charge d’affaires of the US Consulate Peter Boday. Sattar is reported to have said that some MQM workers, Musharraf, landlords, Inter Services Intelligence agency (ISI) and other political parties were all guilty of causing or exacerbating the mayhem on May 12.
**
In a 40-minute phone call, **Sattar told Boday that certain members of his party did cause violence on the day, and that the party should consider disarming its militant wing. Sattar also denied that slogans chanted in favour of Musharraf were made on his directions.
**
The CJ had been due to make an address at the SHC but was prevented from doing so by the mob violence.
**A number of petitions, including a suo motu, were filed but proceedings were subsequently dropped after Musharraf declared an emergency in the country and suspended the constitution.
**
After Musharraf left office and moved abroad, applications for restoration of the petitions were filed. Following a prolonged delay, the cases are now ripe for hearing.
for the past few months judiciary has taken some really good steps, inshaAllah we will see the fruits of it. perhaps not tomorrow .. but somewhere down the road 5-10 yrs from now .. we will see a good progressive Pakistan! inshaAllah!

PPP and MQM were in bed, hence no action taken for 3 years.
Re: May 12 mayhem: Notices issued to Altaf, Musharraf
TLK, the news is true, SHC has issued notices to the parties who were involved ... infact the former Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim name is also included!

Justice delayed is justice denied. This should have been done on May 13, 2007 and all culprits should have caught on murder charges, tried and hanged a long time ago. During dictator's time it was perhaps impossible because the reaction from same killers. At least this is done now in PPP government though delayed. It is hoped that the judges will decide this case fairly without fear of any intimidation from any corner. However again this credit goes to ZM. God bless Zulfiqar Mirza, his press conference gave strength and courage to people of Karachi to speak against biggest terrorists of the city.
Re: May 12 mayhem: Notices issued to Altaf, Musharraf
Sachay ... no doubt Mirza deserves the credit but we should also praise the efforts of Khi police and ofcourse Judiciary ... they have taken some bold steps!

Agreed. but as I said, this should have been done on May 13, 2007, not after Mirza's press conference. Had justice been done earlier perhaps Karachi would have cleared from target killers 4 years ago.
Re: May 12 mayhem: Notices issued to Altaf, Musharraf
When this tragedy was fresh, i remember GEO and other channels keep repeating playback of a clip which showed white land cruiser(not sure) firing on people on the road. It was said that car belongs to Sherri Rehman.
What i am trying to ask is why MQM and musharaf why not other culprits ?

Our so called independent media never named MQM till the day
of coming out of Mirza.
They are still very conscious but now news are pouring in.

You really think Musharraf would have taken out his own henchmen, the MQM terrorists the day after he and his partner altaf hussain ordered the killings?
