I’ve had the drive hooked up with 2 different desktops of mine, one running Vista Basic and other Vista Premium. Each time the computer crashed 3-4 times a day ..
I heard that it is a known issue with Maxtor One Touch that Vista does not like it ..
anyone knows why, or has a solution ..
I tried to connect the drive using both USB and Firewire, so its not the USB mass storage driver that is the issue…
Re: Maxtor One Touch External Hard Drive and Vista
Been there, done that. I too had the same issue with Maxtor. What i did was, took the drive out of enclosure and and now using it as an internal HDD via IDE cable.
You may also try a different enclosure if you happen to have one around the house.
PS: At the time, i could not find any specific solution. Some said, try to update USB drivers, some said to try plugging in/out the device. Did all that, no go!
Re: Maxtor One Touch External Hard Drive and Vista
I "could" be. I'd hate to tell you to go buy a new enclosure and it fails to work even after that. It's better to take the drive out and try to just hook it up to your PC (don't put it in permanently), and if your computer sees it then you know it's the enclosure. Just another way to be sure. :D
Re: Maxtor One Touch External Hard Drive and Vista
That's just such a waste. Buy drives by themselves is soo much cheaper. In fact I've never bought a ready made external drive. Always drive and enclusures separate.
Re: Maxtor One Touch External Hard Drive and Vista
It was very cheap at the time I bought it .. 500 MB for 99 dollars I think. I know its a ridiculous amount now but at that time ( 15 months ago) .. it looked so cheap that I bought it ..
