I really hope some of you have visited Mauritius! Ok so I’m already stressed with the wedding and now I have to arrange the honeymoon on a limited budget. So my work travel agency have found a 7 day half board stay at the La Palmeraie Hotel which is located in the Belle Mare region. Firstly what is the weather like beginning Sept, do most places serve halal food? The hotel is not located in a buzzing area and I hear Grand Baie is a better area for more atmosphere so we will have to pay more for taxi, car hire etc and of course lunch. So I’m stressing as my fiance is a big lover of food and if the hotel serves crap and expensive lunch we will have the headache to travel far for food etc.
Re: Mauritius honeymoon in SEPTEMBER HELP CONFUSED!
Can you chose somewhere else? or does it have to be this honeymoon.
Low budget + need for halal food + warm = morocco or istanbul.
Mauritius will be warm in september and alot of places serve halal food apart from some authentic chinese places which dont and also these authentic chinese places serve pork.
Re: Mauritius honeymoon in SEPTEMBER HELP CONFUSED!
Thanks
Well this is what I'm thinking of going Santorini it's a beautiful greek island and also visit Turkey however I know it sounds so shallow but I know my whole family will think oh they just went to Europe for their honeymoon and to be honest I don't even know if I'm a beach type of person as I can't swim! Really confused
Re: Mauritius honeymoon in SEPTEMBER HELP CONFUSED!
honestly, my idea about a honeymoon is a break from wedding stress and family and work and all the hustle bustle that came with the wedding itself. you have to enjoy your honeymoon and relax rather that hold a certificate to show your family where you went ! choose a place that is in you budget easily and have fun !
Re: Mauritius honeymoon in SEPTEMBER HELP CONFUSED!
^ Ditto to that!!
I had a very similar frame of mind regarding my hubby booking Dubai as the second part of my honeymoon, as I felt relatives would be like " oh everyone goes Dubai - why on honeymoon?!". He ended up booking it anyway lol! But I have to say after all the fuss I created over this to hubby about not going there - I ended up enjoying Dubai faaaar more than the 1st half of honeymoon (Langkawi I sland - Malaysia). Wherever you go it will be enjoyable - trust me!! Enjoy the short weeks you have in each others company before you come back to boring normal routined life! Im sure where ever you end up going - it will be bliss I'm sure... :)
Re: Mauritius honeymoon in SEPTEMBER HELP CONFUSED!
Ah thanks I totally agree but a part of me really wants to go Mauritius it's a shame we can't spend more but I mean we can still get a 4* hotel half board but I would have loved to splash out more on a 5* star all inclusive etc after reading so many forums the overall impression is that we must take more spending money which we can do instead
Re: Mauritius honeymoon in SEPTEMBER HELP CONFUSED!
If you do end up going to Mauritius, let us know how it was as I wanna go there for our honeymoon as well. That or maybe Cook Islands. Have you looked into that? We won't be going right after the wedding though. We'll go probably 4-5 months after the wedding since it's better to have a cooling off period in terms of finance right after a huge wedding.
Re: Mauritius honeymoon in SEPTEMBER HELP CONFUSED!
I've been to Mauritius, went in December 2009 and loved it. It wasn't our honeymoon - more of a 1-year anniversary holiday. We didn't stay in a luxury hotel, it was technically rated a 3* but we felt the service was 5* - the staff were all so friendly that it made up for the fact we didn't have a "luxury" room. We were on an all-inclusive basis so didn't eat out much, 90% of the food in our hotel was halal and anything non-halal was clearly marked. I would love to go back and would definitely recommend it as a holiday destination.
I recently went on holiday to the Maldives, which we did on a luxury budget and even though we had a nicer hotel in Maldives, I have better memories from our Mauritius holiday.

Great feedback thanks! I am so glad most hotels in Mauritius are halal. I know many friends who have been Maldives and spent an absolute fortune but got bored in less than a week.
I haven't been to mauritius but we've booked Maldives for november. My fiance has been to mauritius and he said its nice and hes a typical guy and did loads of activities. I personally think a honeymoon should be all about relaxation.! I would definabtly go and dont worry about not being able to swim my fiance doesnt but i do and wer both just looking forward to lazing on the beach. You could do tours while out there keep yourself busy. And tbh food wise on holiday i always aim for the lightest option. Whats ur budget? We managed to get maldives 10 nights dubai 3 nights and abu dhabi 3 nights as UAE was in our stopover. I can suggest loads of destinations for u ive done loads of research.! Lol X

Re: Mauritius honeymoon in SEPTEMBER HELP CONFUSED!
Hubby & I came back from an exotic/very relaxing holiday in Mauritius in Jan this year.. We stayed at a resort called Long Beach Resort.. Was amazing.. Very different style.. Inside resort there were 5 restaurants, and private beach lots of activities, spas, massages, pools etc etc
All food there was Halal. We booked as such so Breakfast & Dinner was inclusive and for lunch we'd be out sight seeing anyway.
We had a great time, was on the other side of Port Louis (their capital) but in all honesty, 1 day for there is enough.. it's more about having fun and relaxing!
On way back we went to KL (Malaysia) and stayed at the West In hotel.. was amazinggg
Re: Mauritius honeymoon in SEPTEMBER HELP CONFUSED!
Is there anybody with experiences in Maldives as we' re planning to go there on our honeymoon.. No need of a full on luxury hotel, and neither are we going to do a lot of activities, more being lazy and hanging out on the beach. :P Please share ur experiences!
