Mauresmo calls time on her career

**Former world number one Amelie Mauresmo has announced she is retiring from tennis at the age of 30.**The 2006 Wimbledon and Australian Open champion won the Paris Indoor Open in February but has not played since September’s US Open.

Her second-round defeat by Canada’s Aleksandra Wozniak was her worst performance at Flushing Meadows.

Mauresmo missed the last two tournaments of the season and ended the year ranked 21st in the world.

She turned professional in 1993 and won 25 WTA singles titles and was world number in September 2004.

“I made this decision after careful consideration,” she said.
