It’s frustrating that these people would rather trust clerics than the government. If these people refuse to be protected from polio… they should be left to deal with the consequences. Heck, maybe the government should encourage the virus. Given that Bajaur is a stronghold of anti-Pakistan militants, it would help the government enforce authority if the people were crippled by polio and unable to fight back.
If at any point, they choose to accept protection from the virus of course, they would be welcome to it.
A polio vaccination programme in a remote Pakistani tribal region has been suspended after villagers threatened health workers, officials say.
Hardline clerics in the area are against the programme, saying it is a US conspiracy to render people incapable of producing children.
Officials say that up to 4,000 children in two villages in the Bajaur tribal region were due to be vaccinated.
Pakistan is one of only five countries where the polio virus still exists.
Re: Maulvis force end to polio vaccination programme
I'd prefer someone infected their children with polio so they then realise why the vaccination is so important.
y give the pain to someone who don't even know whats going on? Y not just KILL the DAMN DISEASE instead of preventing it?
Re: Maulvis force end to polio vaccination programme
Well clearly these maulvis don't want to kill the disease. So they should be made to realise the consequences. Since polio doesn't really affect adults, that means.....
Re: Maulvis force end to polio vaccination programme
For every one of the ignorant maulvis you kill (as opposed to regular maulvis).... there is a class of kids also being taught by ignorant maulvis waiting to take his place.
By the way - at this point it's important to stress that most ulema in Pakistan including the MMA vocally support polio vaccination. This ignorance is limited to only a minority that dominates certain areas such as Bajaur. They are the ones who should be made to suffer the consequences of unchecked polio.
Re: Maulvis force end to polio vaccination programme
^ I still don’t agree about makin their kids suffer If its only in Bajaur .. then kill moulvis of bajour .. infact slow poison them n then let them live their life
Re: Maulvis force end to polio vaccination programme
Is there a difference between Maulvis and villagers living in tribal areas? Each villager has his own masjid and that is why each household has a maulvi living in it?
Re: Maulvis force end to polio vaccination programme
Actually I recant. Spreading polio to these areas will not help since 90% of people infected with polio show no symptoms or negative effects. Only 1% get crippled.
The government has got to take some kind of action to make sure the children get immunised. Perhaps using the army to surround individual villages and provide security for teams forcibly immunising children would work.
Wasting time trying to talk this out would only mean time during which more children get infected.
Re: Maulvis force end to polio vaccination programme
Argument from the Jihadi Mullah Camp
Do we have any reference - any incident from Islamic history
From Sahaba’s times
where polio vaccine was give to prevent polio
Its all from Allah (swt) - jiss ki qismat main joo likha hota hay wohi hota hay
Re: Maulvis force end to polio vaccination programme
aaah… Maulvis may be right. See they never had polio vaccines and they always have 10+ children in their household and other ppl who had vaccines have only 2-3 kids
