Maulana Fazlur Rehman to participate in elections even if held under PCO

JUI-F least interested in anti-emergency rallies

The JUI-F seems more interested in winning the majority seats of the MMA, than with taking out protest rallies against the imposition of emergency. The JUI-F’s Central Executive Committee, in its meeting on Sunday, decided to reserve its workforce for the general elections instead of exhausting it in protests against imposition of emergency and restoration of democracy, party sources told Daily Times. The JUI-F, led by Maulana Fazlur Rehman, is the leading partner in the six-party MMA alliance, along with Qazi Hussain Ahmed-led Jamaat-e-Islami. Despite having different point of views on certain issues, both parties have successfully maintained their alliance and are committed to contesting the elections from the MMA’s platform.

JI protests: “The JUI-F will be pressing the JI for maximum seats during ticket distribution process and try to get the lion’s share. We will also reserve our force to get maximum results during the elections. As far as the protest rallies are concerned, the CEC has decided to leave this to Qazi’s JI,” the sources said. They said that JUI-F did not favour boycotting elections, adding that it would abide by the decision taken by an APDM meeting on Monday. “The meeting also decided to leave the decision to participate in the all-parties conference called by Benazir Bhutto to the APDM,” the sources added.
