JUI to participate in elections if held under PCO
QUETTA: Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) Secretary General Fazlur Rehman said on Tuesday that holding free and fair elections is the only way out of the current political crisis. Addressing a press conference here he said his party would take part in elections if held under the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO).
Re: Maulana Fazlur Rehman to participate in elections even if held under PCO
i don't care for MMA or its leadership. They're the biggest bigeots, hypocrites that have ever come on the scene of politics. Atleast others don't boast being 'Islamic' but these guys use that respect ppl hold for them to propell them in govt. each and everytime. It makes me sick to stomach. If i were in-charge, i would've put these guys in jail before shutting down the media.
Re: Maulana Fazlur Rehman to participate in elections even if held under PCO
sadly, in free elections, MMA would get ~20% of the vote in current climate.
yeah, so fazls part of MMA gets 20%, cuts into vote bank of PML(N) and other mullahs, keeps ppl happy who are mad that mullak islaam say door ja raaa ayyyyy, PPP gets other large chunk of votes, keeping liberals, nGOs and human righst groups happy since they worship PPP, MQM stays in due to their iron grip on karachi, PML(Q) hangs around with enough numbers that they can impact parliament moves.
Re: Maulana Fazlur Rehman to participate in elections even if held under PCO
kabhi huay hain free aur fair elections? last time huay thay toh mulk divide ho gaya tha..remember.
now note i did not say pml(Q) will have a majroty, i said just nudd numbers that they can cause issues .. lets just say if you have a ruling coalition, even small players can cause problems because they can impact the balance of power etc. that is what I meant. just to simplify.

JUI-F least interested in anti-emergency rallies
The JUI-F seems more interested in winning the majority seats of the MMA, than with taking out protest rallies against the imposition of emergency. The JUI-F’s Central Executive Committee, in its meeting on Sunday, decided to reserve its workforce for the general elections instead of exhausting it in protests against imposition of emergency and restoration of democracy, party sources told Daily Times. The JUI-F, led by Maulana Fazlur Rehman, is the leading partner in the six-party MMA alliance, along with Qazi Hussain Ahmed-led Jamaat-e-Islami. Despite having different point of views on certain issues, both parties have successfully maintained their alliance and are committed to contesting the elections from the MMA’s platform.
JI protests: “The JUI-F will be pressing the JI for maximum seats during ticket distribution process and try to get the lion’s share. We will also reserve our force to get maximum results during the elections. As far as the protest rallies are concerned, the CEC has decided to leave this to Qazi’s JI,” the sources said. They said that JUI-F did not favour boycotting elections, adding that it would abide by the decision taken by an APDM meeting on Monday. “The meeting also decided to leave the decision to participate in the all-parties conference called by Benazir Bhutto to the APDM,” the sources added.

No MMA boycott of polls: Fazl
CHARSADDA: Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) General Secretary Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that the MMA would not boycott the general elections. He was talking to lawyer Sahibzada Abdul Fateh at his residence after condoling the death of his brother Sahibzada Yousaf Khan. Fazl said that by boycotting the elections, the MMA would provide an opportunity to the previous ruling party Pakistan Muslim League (PML) to win the elections. He also expressed dissatisfaction with the caretaker setup, which he said was constituted by the government representatives. He said the MMA would take part in the elections and the decision would be announced in the upcoming meeting of the MMA. online

Excellent. So basically MMA thinks, Musharraf should go, but if he does stay, they want a say in the decision making process too. How awesome!.....such are the principles of our 'religious politicians'.

In the end all major political parties will take part in the elections, whether held under PCO or not. They did so in 2002, and they will again.
