Do they fit in with other students in Uni? Please share your thought/experiences.
Re: Mature Students
If you mean senior citizens, then there is a 65 year old gentleman in my University who is my "junior". So it all depends on the attitude of the particular student. After all you are only as old as you feel. :)
Re: Mature Students
^Wow. So do you guys talk to him....I mean do you guys hang around with him?
Re: Mature Students
Just normal hello hi, I doubt I'd be best buddies with them. Though they're very helpful I usually find

So they hang around with other mature students? Btw, I'm gonna be 28 when I enter the Uni so I've been feeling a bit odd lately thinking about my social life in uni.
Re: Mature Students
28 isn’t much lol. Just make sure to talk to as many people as you can, that helps a lot in starting and getting to know everyone.
I was talking about 40 year olds. I had a guy who was 55 and one 50. Both were quite lonely by the looks of it. Then there was a 32 year old, he was probably the most popular…but then again maybe because he was very clever ![]()
Re: Mature Students
Yep I agree Shak, as they are willing to put so much extra effort. They are much more hard working as compared to us poor fools.
@hareem
28 is not old at all. You should be okay.
Re: Mature Students
During my grad program I had mostly very mature classmates , working for the government , and very professional . I think I learned a lot from them . I was also friends with couple of them , and we are still in contact after like 3 months of graduation :p
But yea if you are going for any grad program it shouldn't be a problem . There is nothing like odd one out . Rather it will make class environment very mature and professional .

Re: Mature Students
I couldn't say, as a student I've always been immature.
Well, jokes aside, by the time they're in university, I don't see age to be much of an issue anymore. When I was in college (usually we're out of there by the age of 20), there were people in their late 20's also attending, and they didn't seem out of place at all so I think it would be even less of an issue in university.
Re: Mature Students
I think non-trad students fare better in grad schools....
Re: Mature Students
i had no such student in class:bummer:
Re: Mature Students
I dont think you will have any trouble..most students in uni are in their twenties anyways..plus or minus a few years doesn't make a difference..one of my professors during 4th year was in my class in 1st year and we all treated her like any other student..although had no idea she would go on to teach us..lol
Re: Mature Students
Maturity does not only depend upon age. It can also depend upon one's experiences. Someone younger can be more mature than someone who is older.
Your priorities/responsibilities/beliefs play a role in compatibility with other students. For, example a mother of two children...you may relate better to someone who also has kids compared to a 17-18 year old who just graduated high school and does not have the responsibilities you have. You could even relate to someone who is younger (at a completely different stage of life) but shares similar views as you. It's a mixed bag.
Even if you don't become "best buds" with someone.....you can find something (the simplest of experiences, for example) to connect over with another student. And even the differences can be fun and interesting....something to learn about....to consider....to ponder over.
If by "mature students" you mean "older"........then I've found that the younger students may sometimes turn to the older ones as they have greater experience. And the older students.....may be be able to relate to the younger ones because they've already been through the things they're experiencing.
Your professors are not all going to be in the same age range as you....or hold the same beliefs. In the work place, your colleagues will also come from different background. I believe that in a uni.....there is the general mindset that the crowd is diverse. It's not like high school where there's a smaller population and with a greater need to "fit in"......instead people are more mature....more open to learning....more goal oriented (imo).
When I was in uni....I got along with people my age....and those who were considerably older and married with kids. Same thing at work. There's always something to talk about and connect over.
