Matthew Hayden is expected to announce his retirement from international cricket today. Cricket Australia has confirmed Hayden will make an announcement in Brisbane at 11.30am local time and News Limited websites have reported this morning that the opener has decided to quit the game.
Hayden, 37, has had a difficult summer and managed only 149 runs at 16.55 from five Tests at home in 2008-09. He was given a standing ovation when he walked off the SCG having made 39 in the second innings last week, although he insisted at the time he had not made a decision on his future.
Should Hayden confirm his decision, Australia will need to decide on a new opening partner for Simon Katich for the upcoming Test tour of South Africa. Contenders will include Phil Jaques, who is only just returning from back surgery, Chris Rogers and Phillip Hughes.
And he had time for three kids. Man, cricket pays!

Good luck to him. He was a good Cricketer and a gr8 athlete as is evident from his Test average but sadly he didn't go out on the top of his game. All good players should learn to go out on the top. Retiring after a poor run takes that shine away from you.
