I resent the fact that there is no emphasis on graphs at all in Pakistan. Even some schools try to shy away from word problems because the teachers themselves are not qualified enough to understand them totally. Even when they have ‘khulasay’ to look into.
This lack of foundation in visualizing the solutions or deciphering the intricate details of word problem hit me hard in some of the higher level math courses I took in the undergrad level.
Yep had the hardest time in Calculus III: multivariable calculus, vector space, solid analytical geometry, surface integrals etc. All the topics that required a solid geometric foundations in high school and lower college math classes.
Abio, why do you think it is so? I mean, we don't need to use 'graph paper' to do the problems .. so why not teach them? And if one does a double math stat BSc / MSc ... do they still choose not to teach phase portraits?
ohh the world famous Bhatti saab haha - our school wanted to hire him to replace our A-Levels teacher whom we thought was doing a fine job. Humm ne pehle hee din tangg karr karr ke bhaga diya Bhatti saab ko - saved our teacher’s job.
