math help needed!

James researched these nutrition facts:

  • 1 gram of soy milk has 0.005 g of carbohydrates and 0.030 g of protien

  • 1 gram of vegetables has 0.14 g of carbohydrates and 0.030 g of protien

James wants his lunch to have 50.000 g of carbohydrates and 20.000 g of protien. How many grams of soy milk and vegetables does he need?

answer is: 320.988g of soy milk and 345.679 g of vegetables

please teach me how to solve it!!!

Re: math help needed!

Here you go...

Amount of soy James needs= x grams
Amount of veggies James needs= y grams

(x)(0.005) + (y)(0.14) = 50 ________ I
(y)(0.03) + (x)(0.03) = 20 ________ II

multiply I by the LCM 6 and subtract from II

you get y = 345.679 grams
x = 320.988 grams
