Match Fixing

SOURCE](http://www.jang-group.com/jang/apr2007-daily/02-04-2007/mulkbharse.htm)

Summary:

*Every ball bowled in the world cup carries a bet (or satta) of about Rs.500,000
BBC claims that in lahore there is a special room constructed on top of a house which is staffed by about 4 people who take calls over cell phones, monitor all matches on the TV and write down all the bets and stakes

*With such DEEP penetration, I think its impossible to CLEAN the game of cricket, just too much at stake… who gives a rat’s behind about what the feelings of the qaum are :smack:

All this hoo haa about eliminating the match fixing from the game is BS

Pathetic :frowning:

Re: Match Fixing

well, the problem is surely there.
I may wait for a confirmation about this particular news from other sources because Jang sometimes just publish juicy stuff.

Re: Match Fixing

Betting on a cricket match is not the same as fixing the matches. Betting is common in all major sports, but very few sports claim the distinction of being tainted by match fixing.

I am not sure any one should be focussing their time chasing after people who are placing bets on "every single ball" or even on outcome of games. Focus should be on players and that they are not corrupt. Players should play the game to the best of their ability and not throw their wickets away or throw matches on the orders of large mafias who make money by mixing betting with match fixing.

Yeah, the monies involved are insanely high, but unless the sport takes a zero-tolerance approach towards player corruption and actually starts putting people/players in jail, this absurdity will continue to spiral out of control.

Right now top-level cricket feels more like WWE (or WWF).

Re: Match Fixing

every ball huh?
whats the number of the guy?

Re: Match Fixing

you guys should see how much sports betting goes on in Las Vegas and what are the bets. like faisal said, betting and match fixing are not the same. if one thinks no gambling takes place in our purified land, we are mistaken.

Re: Match Fixing

Where there is smoke there is a fire out there somewhere…

Bookie takes calls for the match next day - people bet
Teesray over ki chauthi ball will be a no ball
depending on the number of calls he takes - we have a potential match fixing situation. Bookie calls the bowler (or his agent :smooth: ) passes on the information that he has to overstep on the 4rth delivery

and makes some money in the deal :whistling
qatra qatra hi dariya banta hay
