Match against Pakistan will be tough, says Tendulkar

This is the second time he talked about psychological advantage. :hoonh:

CAPE TOWN: Admitting that the World Cup match against Pakistan would not be easy for the Indians, batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar said the players would be under additional pressure while playing against their arch-rivals in the March one encounter.

“It is not going to be easy for us. Expectations are very high and so there is added pressure on our players. But we have a psychological advantage over Pakistan as we have beaten them thrice before in previous World Cup,” said Tendulkar during a practice session of the team here.

India have won all their three World Cup encounters against Pakistan – in 1992 (Sydney) and 1996 (Bangalore) and 1999 (Old Trafford).

The game on March one at Centurion has been billed as the “match of the tournament” and is expected to be a tense affair as Pakistan would be looking forward to avenge for their previous losses.

Tendulkar said **Pakistan would be benefitted from the experience of their players as 13 of the 15 members of the squad have prior experience of playing in World Cup. In contrast, nine players of the Indian team are making their first appearance in the Worl Cup.

“That should help them play as a unit.” **

The master blaster, who is likely to play a key role in his side’s prospects in the mega tournament, was hopeful of his team’s success.

“We have been performing well and have a balanced side,” Tendulkar was quoted as saying by the Gulf News website.

Convincing words in print…but hearing him physically takes all seriousness out of the equation (just heard the audio of his interview):hehe:

Cant wait for Mar 1st…it will be a thriller :k:

Tendulkar is a great sportsman, his temprament is also excellent. I for one give due thought to his words and opinions. He is very right when he talks about the extra pressure on his team, especially on his own batting when he comes up to face Pakistan. Eventhough I am with Pakistan (obviously) I wish the little master good luck!

Re: Match against Pakistan will be tough, says Tendulkar

Performing well? Where? They got a royal beating in NZ and some tribal team just beat them twice. Gosh this guy is living in his own world.

Re: Re: Match against Pakistan will be tough, says Tendulkar

bhai, he cannot go in with a negative attitude in world cup.

Master Blaster

A Great batsmen of our time. A true legend, not only due to cricketing abilities, but also due to his abillity to keep politics out of cricket. Never has a bad word to say about anyone. Maybe, Pakistani's should learn a lesson here....

Best of luck Sachin.

You are kidding me, right?

Sachin has OPENLY refused to play in Pakistan many many times. And this is a fact.

I guess. But when I know I have been doing poorly at something, I just keep my mouth shut rather than say silly stuff to make myself feel good :).

Re: Re: Re: Re: Match against Pakistan will be tough, says Tendulkar

You have a good point, but you should realize alot of Ilas are behind him, and its not good for him to keep his mouth shut (even though he should, as he speaks like girl :bukbuk: :bukbuk:

Lets see who does better in the cup, Lara or Sachin, it will be an interesting comparison

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Match against Pakistan will be tough, says Tendulkar

I think Lara has left on a supersonic jet in that race. Sachin will have to do some magic to catch up, which I dont’ think he is capable of anymore. :rotfl:

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Match against Pakistan will be tough, says Tendulkar

What you think or dont think doesn’t matter. There are some people who matter said the following things about Lara & Sachin :-

WASIM AKRAM: I have bowled to both Tendulkar and Lara and I have found Lara more attacking. Tendulkar has a tighter technique, no doubt, but Lara can single-handedly win the game for his team. I am not saying Tendulkar cannot do it but Lara has maybe done it more often than him. If you are asking me who is the best batsman I have bowled to, than it’s not Tendulkar and not Lara as well. It’s Martin Crowe… he was an amazing batsman. Regarding Tendulkar and Lara, I would love to have both in my team! Who wouldn’t!!

GLENN McGRATH: For me, it’s Tendulkar. Both are class act but I am saying this because I have had more success against Lara than I have against Tendulkar. I think I have a fair idea of what Lara likes and doesn’t like and I feel I can make his life at the crease very uncomfortable. He is vulnerable outside the off-stump early on and is not as tight as Tendulkar in defence. I would go for Tendulkar as the best in the world.

WAQAR YOUNIS: Unfortunately I have now bowled enough to Tendulkar in Test matches but there is no doubt about his class. I have bowled against Lara and I have had some success against him. I think over the years I would say I have been fifty-fifty against both Tendulkar and Lara. I have got them a few times and they have got runs against me as well. I can never forget a 16-year-old Tendulkar batting on after being struck on the nose by a fast bouncer from me. I think Tendulkar is mentally tougher than Lara.

MUTHIAH MURALITHARAN: I have played a lot of cricket against Tendulkar compared to what I have played against Lara. While both are difficult to bowl to, I think Lara plays me better than Tendulkar. That Lara is a left-hander is an advantage to him, but the great thing about him is he launches into the attack straight-away. He uses his feet well against me while Tendulkar relies more on the sweep, I feel. I find Lara tougher.

JASON GILLESPIE: In my opinion it’s Tendulkar who is ahead of the two. Mentally stronger than Lara, he has a better technique as well. Tendulkar doesn’t get worked up like Lara when the opposition has a few words to say to him. Lara on his day can be destructive, but you have to look at consistency and I think Tendulkar is definitely more consistent than Lara.

SAQLAIN MUSHTAQ: Both have their good qualities but I feel Tendulkar doesn’t give as many chances as Lara does. Lara, once he settles down, can be a better player to watch because of the left-hander’s grace and also because he plays more shots. He has played more match-winning innings compared to Tendulkar because he finished off the job once he is in. But Sachin is more compact and puts a heavy price on his wicket. It is more difficult to dislodge Tendulkar compared to Lara.

Tendulkar is right that it will be a tough game but I think India is going to have a great chance against Pakistan. Pakistans batting is as pathetic as it could be and their bowling is NOT the worlds best...shoaib is a match winner but both wasim and especially waqar are too expensive these days.and razzaq is nowhere near the bowler he was 4 years ago.afridi sucks and saqlain has not performed well for a long time now at the top level...mushtaq ahmed would have been a better choice...think about this for a team....

saeed anwar
imran nazir
inzamam ul haq
yousef youhana
younis khan
azhar mahmood
wasim akram(c)
moin khan
mushtaq ahmed
shoaib akhter
mohammad zahid

unfortunately thats not the team we have! india will be favorites going into the game and rightly so. pakistan has what it takes to beat them but on paper the money should be on india.

as for tendulkar vs lara...lara is the better man....he has scored runs on all parts of the world against the best teams while tendulkar is yet to shine outside of the sub continent and against top sides in tough conditions

Can we please stick to the topic and not turn it into Lara V Sachin thread.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Match against Pakistan will be tough, says Tendulkar

Looks like Lara’s Supersonic JET never Landed in SA after it took off it directly took him back to WI :rotfl::rotfl: ??

Kareem, I agree with you man 100% :rotfl:
