India have suffered another blow ahead of their crucial match against Australia, as Ajit Agarkar has been ruled out with a side strain, according to the Press Trust of India. Ashish Nehra is still recovering from his viral fever and isn’t match-fit, while Mohammad Kaif will also be a doubtful starter, with a shoulder injury. India had already suffered a huge setback before the start of the tournament, with Sachin Tendulkar ruled out for the entire series with an elbow injury.
However, SK Nair, the secretary of the Indian board, said that the team management hadn’t yet asked for any replacements. Speaking to Wisden Cricinfo, Nair said: “There has been no request from the team management so far. We will take a decision depending on what they say.”
India are in a must-win situation in tomorrow’s game, after being dealt a crushing 66-run defeat in their opening game against Pakistan. The large margin of defeat meant that India conceded a bonus point as well.
However, there was some good news amid all this gloom. Harbhajan Singh has recovered from his viral fever, and Gautam Dasgupta, the manager, revealed that Harbhajan may find a spot in the starting XI. Dasgupta was also optimistic about Kaif’s chances of playing in the game. PTI quoted him as saying, “Kaif has a shoulder strain, but he should be all right to play tomorrow.”
Nehra is fit and he has been included in the eleven Nehra in for Agarkar is the only change from the team that played the first match
Australian eleven - Matthew Hayden, Brad Haddin, Ricky Ponting, Damien Martyn, Darren Lehmann, Michael Clarke, Andrew Symonds, Brad Hogg, Brett Lee, Michael Kasprowicz and Glenn McGrath.
