An upcoming singer and a doctor by profession. i have listened to song ‘luttna’ from film ‘cocktail’ many times and i always used to wonder that it says masuma anwar as one of the singers but where the hell is her bit in this song…all i can hear is the male part. just listened to one of her songs on youtube once again and realised it was actually her voice (which i mistook for sahir ali bagga’s who is her co-singer in that song). does any one else finds her voice just pure manly and weird if you see her singing?

yes its quite manly. She sung Kalam Iqbal in mardana voice

hmmm it is natural voice...when she talks you can see she has a manly husky voice. she likes it though as it stands her out from other females.

yes its her natural voice and that can help her if she start administrating a hospital, but for female playback singing its not suitable. Tahira Syed who got more female tones than her couldn't survive as playback singer even after giving hits like 'ye mehfil jo aaj saji hai, iss mehfil main hai koi hum sa.. hum sa ho to samne aae'. Even her famous ghazal 'ye aalam shoq ka dekha na jae' that she sung before the poet Ahmed Faraz on PTV was later picturised on Babra Sharif in a movie, but in Naheed Akhtar's voice.

PTV keeps playing her songs from the show Heritage Revived.
She has a very soothing voice.
Tahira's voice is not suitable for films.
Whereas, Nahid has a husky and bhaari voice too but ruled playback singing for years.

I respect your opinion but I completely disagree with it. Its really the need of the song and the context of it all in the story that determine the voice that shall be used for the playback singing!
