Hey Guys ! I am planning to do Masters in English ,as i have no interest in Literature
so the point is what would u recommend English Linguistics or English Language? i will be applying as a private student.
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated

Chanel1122, the difference is in approach. English Language will focus on English alone; its history, its development, and its use - including in literature.
Linguistics is usually about the nature of language itself; syntax, pragmatics, etc. You may have to look at other languages, along with English.
You do realize that you can't avoid literature altogether, right? Even if you go for English Language, there's no way you're going to escape Chaucer.

In my opinion, it very difficult to find job with this profession. We live in the rescission time. It's better become programmer or scientist. Math always works.

a little late in my reply here, but just wanted to highlight the difference for those who might be interested.
a study of linguistics is usually “descriptive” in nature, while a study of language is “prescriptive”. This is to say that if someone is specializing in linguistics, he/she would be concerned with the structure of a language as it is actually used by its speakers… while someone who spcializes in language is primarily an expert in the structure of a language as it should be used.
I personally find linguistics to be more interesting and rich. So good choice between the two @chanel1122; :k:
